Menominee Nation 70, Oconto 49

The Eagles are 13-6 overall after posting a 70-49 nonconference win over Oconto. Menominee Nation jumped out to a 38-20 halftime lead.

While the second half was much closer (32-29 in favor of the Eagles), the game was out of reach at that point.

Gillett 43, St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 30

A 43-30 win over the Cavaliers moved Gillett to 8-4 in the Marinette & Oconto Conference. The Tigers are 11-7 overall.

Marion/Tigerton 45, Elcho 33

The Mustangs improved to 11-6 with a 45-33 nonconference win over Elcho.

Shawano 50, Seymour 35

Shawano moved ahead of Seymour in the Bay Conference after a 50-35 win over the Hawks home court.

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead as their defense held the Thunder in check for a 19-11 halftime lead. Seymour closed the lead to one early in the second half, but in the last 10 minutes, the Hawks asserted their dominance and finished with the victory.

Leah Nordin led the Hawks with 29 points.

Shawano is in fourth place at 6-6 and 12-7 overall. Seymour is in fifth place at 5-7 and 9-10 overall.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 60, D.C. Everest 20

The Chargers jumped out to a commanding 40-7 lead at halftime and continued to cruise in the second half as they beat D.C. Everest 60-20 in a nonconference duel.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood coach Nick Mechelke said the night was more than a basketball game.

“Wittenberg-Birnamwood teamed up with D.C. Everest to raise awareness for mental health,” he said. “The Stay4me Foundation was made to honor (the late) News 9 broadcaster Neena Pacholke and to raise awareness for mental health.”

Wittenberg-Birnamwood stayed perfect at 19-0.

Stratford 46, Bonduel 43

The Bears fought tooth and nail but couldn’t keep a slim lead in the second half as Bonduel fell 46-43 to Stratford in the nonconference game.

Trailing 27-22 at the break, Bonduel pulled ahead by a basket in the second half, but Stratford recaptured the lead and wouldn’t let it go.

Bonduel fell to 17-3 overall.

Lena 61, Suring 43

Lena improved to 11-1 in the Marinette & Oconto Conference and 17-1 overall with a 61-43 win over Suring. The Eagles dropped to 6-6 in league action and 11-7 overall.

Other scores: Three Lakes/Phelps 66, Gresham 18; Notre Dame 72, Pulaski 8; Oconto Falls 60, Wrightstown 51.

Monday, Feb. 2

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 52, Auburndale 47

Melaina Granquist connected on a double-double with 16 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds as Wittenberg-Birnamwood defeated Auburndale 52-47 in nonconference action.

Rory Salvesen led the Chargers with 20 points and five steals while also nabbing six rebounds.

Harper Rogowski scored 12 points.

Nora Bushman pulled down five rebounds, and she and Granquist each had two steals.

Salvesen led the team with three assists, with Brie Ladika getting two and Zoey Thorson with one.
