Conrad E. Schmid

Conrad E. Schmid, 96, of De Pere, formerly of Rudolph, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, at the Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center in De Pere.

Conrad was born June 12, 1929, in Milwaukee as the son of the late Edmund and Margaret (Woiak) Schmid. He grew up in Milwaukee where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948.

Conrad then worked for the city of Milwaukee prior to being drafted into the United States Army in February 1951. He served in the 623rd Field Artillery Battalion in Battery “B” overseas in Korea and earned his honorable discharge from service in 1957 after completing four years in the Reserves.

Upon his return home, Conrad met Sharon Tank at the Woodland Bar in rural Tigerton. The couple were later united in marriage at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Birnamwood on May 7, 1955. Conrad and Sharon lived near Rudolph where he worked for Nekoosa Foundry prior to the plant closure in the 1990s at which time Conrad was transferred to the De Pere plant (later renamed Bay Engraving and Casting) until his retirement five years later.

Sharon preceded her husband in death Nov. 28, 1986, at the young age of 50.

Conrad definitely had a passion for the outdoors and loved fishing with his brother on Shawano Lake and deer hunting with his sons each season. He also enjoyed a good game of sheepshead or cribbage and taught his children how to play chess and checkers when they were young. Conrad will be remembered for his work ethic and love for his family.

Survivors include children, James “Jim” (friend Janice) Schmid, Joseph “Joe” (Vicki) Schmid, Debra “Debe” (Will) Dutton, Donald “Donnie” (Lynne) Schmid, Ronald “Ronnie” Schmid, Robin Schmid and Todd (Michelle) Schmid; also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Margaret Schmid; his wife, Sharon Schmid; an infant granddaughter, Ann Marie; a brother, Robert Schmid; and a sister, Carol (Stash) Stanislowski.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home and Crematory, 127 Cedar St., Tigerton. Inurnment with full military honors will be conducted later next summer at All Souls Cemetery in Rudolph.
