CLUB NOTES: Gillett FFA

The Gillett FFA had a very successful 2022 FFA Banquet. We were able to honor many members on their achievements and involvements through the 2021-2022 school year. The banquet began with guest speaker Amara Livingson, the 2021-2022 state FFA parliamentarian, who gave a speech about kindness. Then we began our awards ceremony. The first degree to be earned in FFA is the discovery degree. This degree can be earned as an active seventh- or eighth-grade member. We had 11 members earn this degree. Along with this we chose an outstanding middle school member, Audrey Woodke. The next degree is the greenhand degree, and this is the first degree that can be earned at the high school level. We had 17 members awarded this degree. Cole Schaal was chosen as our Star Greenhand recipient. The final degree at the chapter level is the chapter degree. We had four members awarded this degree, and Bradin Bjelland was chosen as the star chapter recipient. Next, we awarded the scholar award to the top 3 FFA members in each grade. Freshman: Jack Sturm, Zander Davis, Scott Heroux; Sophomores: Bradin Bjelland, Ben Matczak, Hailey Elsner; Juniors: Megan Wagner, Phillip Heroux, Laney DeBauch; Seniors: Ryann Wagner, Taylor Schuster, Alaina Herzog. Career development event awards were handed out next. CDEs allow students to learn different pathways in agriculture. We had 5 CDE Teams, some which were able to compete at the state level of competition. The following teams competed at CDEs: livestock (Cole Schaal, Grace Simpson, Hannah Simpson, Cheyenne Krueger), dairy cattle evaluation (Thayne Bjelland, Bradin Bjelland, Taylor Schuster, Laney DeBauch), wildlife (Jesse DeBauch, Phillip Heroux, Ryan Hillesland, Ryan Pensis, Dylan Nelson), milk products and processing (Tani Lucht, Zander Davis, Scott Heroux, and Brody Kohls), and meats (Kierstin Genz, Cheyenne Krueger, Ryann Wagner, Cole Schaal). We then recognized Ryann Wagner for competing in the employment skills leadership development event at district and sectional competitions. Next, we thanked our members for helping with PALS and also the little PALS who attended. Then, we thanked everyone for fundraising and recognized the top salesmen: Cole Schaal, Thayne and Bradin Bjelland, and Kennedy Schroeder. Thayne Bjelland was awarded the Dekalb award for his involvement and future plans in agriculture. We recognized and thanked our FFA Alumni for all they do for our chapter. Then we thanked our seniors. We ended our banquet by awarding the new FFA officer team for 2022-2023 with their new officer positions. Congratulations to all on their achievements and accomplishments throughout this year, we are very proud of you all. A special thank you to Milk and Honey Cafe for catering our meal.
