Lakes Country Public Library’s capital campaign to renovate and expand Lakewood Library is getting another boost after learning that, due to the overwhelming response to its October $10,000 donor match, a second anonymous donor has stepped forward, upping the ante with a $20,000 match challenge.
“The speed with which we completed the first match was amazing,” said Linda McKenna, a member of the board of trustees who sits on the library’s building expansion committee. “In that regard, we know that the community’s support is vital to us reaching our goal. So, as part of our fundraising effort, we recently sent solicitation letters to local Chamber of Commerce members. We received our first donation within two days.”
Contributions may be dropped off at the library, given online at www.lakescountrylibrary.org or mailed in by a check to LCPL Building Fund, 15235 State Highway 32, Lakewood, WI 54138. Checks should have “Donor Match” in the memo line.
CWEC collecting toys for kids through Dec. 2
Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative (CWEC) will once again partner with the U.S. Marine Corps to help make Christmas for area children a little brighter by collecting and distributing toys via the Toys for Tots program.
Through the Toys for Tots program, toys are collected and distributed to local children in an effort to bring joy, happiness and goodwill this Christmas season.
Last year, CWEC was able to provide toys to more than 1,100 area children. All indications are that toys will need to be collected for at least the same number of children this year. It is a daunting task to collect enough toys for that many children. You can help spread a little Christmas joy this holiday season by donating a new, unwrapped toy. All of the toys collected are distributed locally.
Toys at donation sites will be collected Dec. 2 and include the following:

• Bowler: Bowler School, 500 S. Almon St.; First National Bank, 102 E. Railroad Ave.

Salvation Army seeks Shawano bell ringers
The Salvation Army of Shawano County is in need of volunteers to ring bells during the Red Kettle Campaign, which runs from Thanksgiving through Christmas.
The Bell Ringers are located at Charlie’s County Market, Qualheim’s True Value and Walmart, and ringing takes place on Fridays and Saturdays during the season.
All donations made in Shawano County stay in the county to help families in need with financial assistance such as rent, utility bills, transportation needs and medical bills. Individuals meet with a representative of Salvation Army to discuss their options.

Veterans can get free Christmas tree in Suring
Vets 4 Vets of Northeast Wisconsin is offering free Christmas trees to local veterans. The organization has partnered with Uncle Paul’s Christmas Trees, where veterans and their families are welcome to come out from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 27 to cut down a beautiful Christmas tree to take home.
Advance reservations are requested to join Vets 4 Vets at Uncle Paul’s Tree Farm, 11489 State Highway 32, Suring. This family friendly event will feature “cut your own” Christmas trees, bonfire, hot chocolate, and holiday treats. Volunteers can to assist with cutting stree if needed.

NTC open for spring semester registration
Registration for the spring 2023 semester is underway at Northcentral Technical College (NTC).
Those who are interested in attending NTC this spring are encouraged to enroll early for the best selection of classes. Spring classes will be offered in a variety of ways, so it is easy for students to build a schedule that is convenient for them.
“Whether a student wants to take classes online while they continue to work or come to an NTC campus during the evening, we have options for everyone,” said Darren Ackley, NTC vice president of learning. “We also offer short-term training, which is a great opportunity for those who want to skill up without enrolling in a two-year degree.”
