Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is an IRS program designed to provide free basic tax assistance to low- to moderate-income families, generally less than $65,000. Returns can be prepared for those who qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit and Homestead Credit.
Volunteers who have completed IRS requirements will be preparing and e-filing the returns.
The Shawano VITA site is located at the Richmond Town Hall, N5170 County Road MM. The process includes two short appointments.
At the first appointment, residents will show a photo ID and Social Security card and drop off in-take forms and supporting documents like W-2 and 1099 forms. The intake forms must be picked up before the appointment at the Shawano County Library, 128 S. Sawyer St., Shawano. Complete the forms and make an appointment by calling the VITA Appointment Line at 715-201-9712. Leave a message, and a volunteer scheduler will call you to make the appointment.
A second appointment will be made for you to get your completed tax return to review and sign before e-filing. Expect the process to take about two weeks.
VITA sites in Gillett and Pulaski prepare returns while you wait. For appointments in Gillett, call the Gillett Public Library at 920-855-6224, and in Pulaski, call the Pulaski Senior Center at 920-822-8100.
