Ice Bears win regular season finale in overtime

The Ice Bears ended the regular season on a winning note, a 4-3 overtime victory over nonconference foe Central Wisconsin Storm in Mosinee.

Faye Brunke scored the winning goal at 2:25 in OT with assist from Mya Sheppard and Reese Spiering.

Scoring began with the Storm taking a 2-0 lead after the first period, forcing the Ice Bears to play from behind.

Lily Lyons scored first for Bay Area at 5:59 in the second. Central Wisconsin took a 3-1 lead at 9:12.

Elizabeth Zunker scored at 11:58 with Elliana Memken assisting. The tying score came at 15:48 from Ava McDonald with Brunke and Hannah Von Haden assisting.

Spiering collected 13 saves for Bay Area against 16 shots on goal. Storm goalie Cami Flohr had 48 saves against 52 shots.

The Ice Bears were called for six penalties for 12 minutes, while Storm players were penalized four times for eight minutes.

Bay Area ended the regular season at 21-2-0, capturing the Eastern Shores Conference title with a 12-0 record.

Bay Area, the No. 1 seed, has a bye in the postseason regional round in Division 1. They will play Feb. 24 against the winner of a game between No. 5 Xavier and No. 4 Fond du Lac.
