Shawano 9, Rhinelander 1
The Shawano/Bonduel hockey team closed out their regular season with a 9-1 win over Rhinelander and wins in four of their last five games.
Kielian Armbruster and Gavin Hundt each had two goals for the Hawks, and Hundt also had two assists.
Shawano/Bonduel scored seven goals in the first period and was up 9-0 after two periods. Rhinelander’s only goal came in the third period.
Armbruster started the scoring unassisted at 1:10 in the first, followed by Hundt scoring unassisted at 5:40.
Max Huntington was assisted by Armbruster on a goal at 8:18, and Blake Swedberg scored at 8:34 with help from Hundt.
Armbruster scored again at 13:17 with Waylon Snider assisting. Bryce Lammers scored at 14:31 with help from Teagan Harkey, and Cameron Schroeder scored at 16:12 with Hundt assisting.
In the second period, Snider scored and Lammers assisted at 5:35, and Hundt scored with Schroeder assisting at 15:40.
Hawks goalie Kaiden Thornborrow earned 14 saves against 15 shots on goal. Hodags goalie Connor McGee had 28 saves against 37 shots.
Hawks players spent 10 minutes in the penalty box for five infractions. The Hodags were penalized seven times for 19 minutes.
Shawano/Bonduel is 14-10.
The Hawks, seeded fifth in their Division 2 sectional, will play at No. 4 seed Lakeland on Feb. 19 for the regional title.
KMMO 4, Bay Area 0
Bay Area closed out its regular season getting shut out 4-0 by KMMO, a co-op team of schools from Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago and Oconomowoc. The loss followed a 3-0 shutout Feb. 7 against Muskego.
Against KMMO, the Storm had 19 shots on goal. KMMO had 31.
Storm goalie Justin Pintar had 17 saves against 21 shots, and Landen Mason had 10 saves against 10 shots. KMMO goalie Landon Lane had 19 saves.
Bay Area was called for three penalties for six minutes, while KMMO had one infraction for two minutes.
Bay Area finished the regular season at 2-3 in the Fox River Classic Conference (fourth place among five teams) and 10-12-1 overall.
The Storm, seeded sixth in its Division 1 sectional, will host 11th-seeded Appleton on Feb. 17 in the regional semifinals, with the winner playing later in the week at No. 3 seed Notre Dame for the regional title.
