Two days after wrapping up a Central Wisconsin Conference-North championship with a five-set win over White Lake, the Tigerton volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a nonconference match against Almond-Bancroft.
It was a chance for both teams to tune up for the upcoming WIAA state tournament. Almond-Bancroft headed to the tournament with momentum after sweeping the Tigers on Oct. 16 in Tigerton on the team’s Senior Night.
The Eagles never trailed in the match’s first game and posted a 25-12 win.
Tigerton controlled the second set and led 12-5 at one point, but the Eagles came back to take an 18-17 lead. The Tigers regained the lead at 23-20, but Almond-Bancroft responded with three unanswered points to tie the game at 23-23.
Both teams served for the game-winning point three times in the set before the Eagles came up with a 30-28 win.
The Tigers trailed 8-2 early in the third set before Jaelyn Brady served up seven points that turned a 15-11 deficit into a 18-15 lead.
That turned out to be Tigerton’s largest lead of the game, as the Eagles used a pair of aces from Aaliyah Newby to take a 19-18 lead.
Almond-Bancroft eventually built a 24-19 lead before wrapping up the match with the final point.
