College of Menominee Nation
Melissa Wescott has been chosen as the College of Menominee Nation’s Student of the Year.
Wescott is a first-generation college student pursuing a degree in substance abuse counseling.
Wescott, a mother of five children, has navigated personal adversities during her time as a student at CMN, including difficulties finding childcare and time for her school work. She remains focused and is an activist in the Menominee community working with Woodland Women, a local nonprofit group, and in her community’s 4-H group.
“My education is my honor and pride — not only for myself, but for my children, my family, my community, and my tribe,” Wescott said.
Her goal is to become an alcohol and drug addication counselor to help individuals in her community. After obtaining her associate’s degree from CMN, she plans to continue on with her educational journey with hopes to complete her master’s in social work.
CMN’s Student of the Year receives a $1,200 scholarship.
Minnesota State University Mankato
Cole Gille, of Sobieski, made the honor list for the fall semester at Minnesota State University Mankato.
Among 3,714 students, a total of 1,126 students qualified for the high honor list by achieving a 4.0 straight A average, while 2,588 students earned a 3.5 to 3.99 average to qualify for the honor list.
To qualify for academic honors, undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours for the semester.
St. Mary’s University
Emma Toellner, of Bonduel, and Peyton Buerman, of Shawano, were named to the fall semester 2022 dean’s list at St. Mary’s University.
The list includes 419 undergraduate students who earned a grade-point average of 3.6 or better on a 4.0 scale.
UW-Platteville
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville awarded diplomas to more than 500 students for fall 2022.
