Club Notes: Delta Kappa Gamma

Delta Kappa Gamma, Nu Chapter, celebrated its 75th anniversary during the Nov. 6 meeting held at Crystal Falls in New London. Wisconsin State Organization President Stephanie Malaney, along with 20 chapter members, was present. Second Vice President Lynn Aprill gave a Slidesgo presentation about chapter history. Fourteen Shawano County women were initiated into Delta Kappa Gamma in Milwaukee on Nov. 9, 1946. Olga Brener was the founding organizer and the chapter’s first vice president. She was the principal at Lincoln School for 43 years and founded Girl Scouts in Shawano. The chapter president was Hulga Goergen, who taught at Franklin Middle School. Deb Rades was initiated during the chapter’s November meeting. She is a fourth grade teacher in the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District. Deb graduated from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, earning a degree in elementary education, grades 1-6, and special education, preK-9. Delta Kappa Gamma, Nu Chapter, includes 39 key women educators in Shawano and Waupaca counties. The chapter sponsors a scholarship for students enrolled in a school of education, distributes books for newborns to local hospitals and clinics, supports Educators Rising, and donates $200 to each of two different school libraries each year.
