Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s girls volleyball team went 3-1 at a preseason tournament at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
“SPASH always hosts a great preseason tournament,” Chargers coach Becky Rew said. “Overall, we played well. We had a few up-and-down moments, but that is expected this early in the season. Our scrappiness and serving were big reasons we won three out of the four matches.”
Witt-Birn had a 2-1 win over Wisconsin Rapids (25-13, 23-25, 15-7), a 2-1 win over Green Bay NEW Lutheran (23-25, 25-19, 15-9) and 2-0 win over Berlin (25-14, 25-19).
The team suffered a 2-0 loss to De Pere (21-25, 15-25).
Leading the Chargers were Brie Ladika, 40 serving attempts with seven aces, 33 digs; Lily Metropulos, 38 serving attempts with six aces, 26 kills, 31 assists and 37 digs; and Kaitlin Tuskowski, 36 serving attempts with five aces, 33 assists.
Melaina Granquist recorded 22 kills and five block kills, while Chloe Jones had six block kills.
