It’s almost time for the Bonduel Track and Field annual golf outing to benefit all Bonduel athletic programs.
This year’s four-person scramble and dinner event will be held Sept. 13 at the Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil.
The shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner at 6 p.m.
Prizes, raffles and auctions will follow the meal.
Organizer Greg Strayer noted that the golf outing alternates each year between the Shawano Lake Golf Course and Golden Sands Golf Course, the latter being the home course for Bonduel’s golf teams.
The price to participate is $80 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, dinner and prizes. For the meal only, the price is $45 per person.
Strayer said Bonduel Athletics, the nonprofit group that oversees the fundraiser and distribution of funds, formed 21 years ago to help with the costs of maintenance of the football field and track.
Now, the goal is to raise funds for a new press box and a shed for maintenance equipment that would be under the press box.
Long-term plans include a turf field for football and expanding the six-lane track to eight lanes.
The golf outing usually raises between $10,000 and $12,000, Strayer said. Last year’s event topped $12,000.
“We’re hoping to have 25 teams,” Strayer said. “We have over 100 hole sponsors.”
Many sponsors are longtime supporters of the golf outing and Bonduel athletics in general.
“We get a lot of requests for funds,” Strayer said. “We paid for two of three buses for fans when the boys were in the state baseball tournament. We just wrote a check for the football team for new headsets. And we just helped pay for two new speakers for the football field sound system.”
Strayer said he’s impressed with the fan support of Bonduel High School’s sports teams.
“We always have some of the biggest crowds at state tournaments,” he said. “There are people there from 8 to 80.”
