While serving as a first-term Wisconsin legislator, Sen. Eric Wimberger, R-Green Bay, dove into his role, taking on many initiatives that improved access to and administration of justice for Wisconsin citizens.
In recognition of those efforts, Wimberger has been awarded the State Bar of Wisconsin Legislative Oversight Committee Scales of Justice Award. This award is given to individuals who are committed to improving the administration of and access to justice for all Wisconsin citizens.
One of the pieces of legislation Wimberger passed into law was the Uniform Law Commission’s (ULC) proposed business entity rewrite, a decades-long project of the State’s Bar’s Business Law Section, resulting in 400 pages of legislation that substantially changed Wisconsin’s corporate statutes.
Wimberger also led the enactment of two initiatives sponsored by the State Bar’s Family Law Section Board that streamlined procedural hurdles involving uniform de novo standards. He also led the passage of legislation that finalize components of marital settlement agreements prior to a divorce being finalized.
“The State Bar of Wisconsin is committed to the vital mission of improving the administration of justice for all Wisconsin citizens,” said Charles Stertz, committee chairman. “We appreciate Sen. Wimberger’s dedication to the issues by shepherding them through the legislature and playing a large role in getting them signed into law,” he said.
Walleye club to hold annual fishing derby
The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club will hold its annual fishing derby on Feb. 25 at the Oconto County Fair main pavilion at Zippel Park in Gillett.
The club will again be registering fish from area lakes at derby headquarters in Zippel Park. There will be prizes given for the largest northern, walleye, bass, crappie, perch, and bluegill. Fish registration ends at 3 p.m. and prizes will be awarded at 3:30 p.m.
In addition, general raffle tickets are being sold by club members and are available at many businesses in and around Gillett and the Oconto County area. This year’s general raffle will offer $6,000 in cash prizes to include $1,000 cash for first place, $750 cash as the second place prize, $500 cash for third, fourth,and fifth place and more. The drawing for these prizes will take place at 4:30 p.m.
Bucket raffles with many prize packages will be available in the pavilion throughout the day. Impulse raffles and live auctions will begin at noon.
There will be a variety of food and beverages available all day.
The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club is a non-profit organization. Past projects have included cleanup of the lake shoreline, repair and maintenance of the dock and boat landing, improvement of the parking area to include picnic tables and grills, construction of fish cribs and treatment of invasive lake weeds.
Lena Knights selling fish to community
The Lena Knights of Columbus are having a seafood sale to raise funds for faith and community projects, working with Blue Harbor Fish out of Green Bay.
Orders are being taken through Feb. 10 on a wide variety of fish and shellfish items. Some items are single-serve portions, others are in 1-pound to 10-pound packages. There are breaded and ready to cook choices, too. Anyone interested can pre-order by contacting Mark Alden at stonemeadow3@gmail.com.
Orders can be picked up at the St. Anne School (formerly St. Charles), 221 E. Main St., Lena, on Feb. 17 from 1-6 p.m., and on Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Knights sponsor a number of community items such as the Feed My Sheep Pantry, Coats for Kids within the Lena School District, scholarships, religious education, knowledge and free throw contests and people in need to name a few.
The Blue Harbor truck will also be on site from 1-5 p.m. Feb. 17 with a broader selection for purchase.
CoVantage Credit Union announces annual meeting
Members of CoVantage Credit Union are invited to attend the organization’s 70th annual membership meeting on Feb. 15. The annual meeting will be held in person this year with a virtual option for those who want to attend from the convenience of their home.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m at the Volm Theatre inside Antigo High School, 1900 West 10th Ave., Antigo, with pre-registration beginning at 6 p.m. in the commons.
