Ground broken for Pulaski Dental

More than 50 people came out to an empty lot on Corporate Way in Pulaski on Oct. 20 to celebrate groundbreaking on a new home for Hammerbeck Dental in Pulaski.

When the new building opens next June, the business, now located at 759 S. St. Augustine St., will also sport a new name: Pulaski Dental.

Dr. Adam Hammerbeck said the new building will feature a surgical suite so patients don’t have to travel to larger communities, and new technology including a dental 3-D printer. The reception area is to include a fireplace and coffee bar for patient comfort, he added.

Robenhorst sentenced to 25 years for child sex assault

A former Oconto County assistant district attorney took the unusual step Oct. 20 of asking a judge to impose the maximum 325-year sentence for a Little Suamico man convicted of seven child sexual assault charges.

Judge Jay N. Conley did sentence Randall J. Robenhorst, to 25 years in prison, followed by 15 years of extended supervision. At the conclusion of a two-day trial in February, a jury deliberated for slightly over an hour before finding Robenhorst guilty of three counts of first-degree child sexual assault, child enticement, and three other related felony counts.

Oconto County clerk: Report election violations immediately

With the Nov. 8 election looming, Oconto County Clerk Kim Pytleski took some time at the Oct. 20 county board meeting to offer a variation on the theme “If you see something, say something.”

Allegations of election irregularities have been part of both political parties’ arsenals dating back to the disputed count in the 2000 presidential election pitting George W. Bush and Al Gore, but the rhetoric has reached a fever pitch in recent years.

• Robert J. Trepanier, 58, Oconto, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was bound over on charges of battery or threat to a law officer and misdemeanor criminal damage to property, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred July 10. Arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 25.

Criminal complaint filed in Little Suamico double homicide

The man accused of killing his mother and stepfather outside their Little Suamico home told investigators that “voices” told him that he needed to take a life.

A criminal complaint was filed Oct. 20 in Oconto County Circuit Court charging David Steinmetz, 27, with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, in connection with the Oct. 1 shooting deaths of Paul Brennan, 75, and his wife, Lori (Steinmetz) Brennan, 55.

Mountain residents want to dine in woods again

A historical society is interested in reopening a national forest recreation area near Mountain that has been closed to the public for several years.

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest officials closed the Green Lake Picnic Area and several other recreation sites throughout the forest in 2015 to reduce costs.

The former park, located along state highways 32 and 64 just south of Mountain in Oconto County, featured a pavilion listed on the National Register of Historic Places, swimming beach, picnic tables and boat landing.
