The Oconto High School Class of 1947 held their 72nd Class Reunion last Sept. 21, 2019. Tree down — reported near County Road S and Pensaukee Bayshore Road, Pensaukee, 1:19 p.m.

Structure fire — reported in the 800 block of East Main Street, Suring, 12:55 p.m.

Oconto youth fair canceled

SHAWANO - The Oconto County Youth Fair board has been canceled for this year, the fair board announced on June 11.

In a letter released June 11, the fair board noted it had tried to stay positive and continue its preparations but added, “Our fair traditions and our youth are very important to us, but nothing is more important than the safety and health of every person that may join us at the Oconto County Youth Fair. That is our number one priority.”

Proceedings of June 10

Jason L. Mulikin, 44, Kingsford, Michigan, was sentenced to five years in prison, followed by five years of extended supervision, for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, in connection with an incident that occurred Sept. 9. Judge Michael T. Judge ordered that upon release Mulikin is to maintain absolute sobriety and have no contact with anyone known to use, possess or sell illegal drugs, among other conditions. He was given credit for 273 days already served in the county jail.

HSHS hospitals relax visitation rules

GREEN BAY — With COVID-19 showing signs of decline in many regions of Eastern Wisconsin, HSHS hospitals have updated their visitor policies to allow more patients to safely receive visitors.

WEST ALLIS — Wisconsin State Fair Chairman John Yingling has announced that for the safety of fairgoers, staff, vendors, entertainers, exhibitors, sponsors, suppliers and the broader community, the 2020 Wisconsin State Fair has been canceled.

Oconto Falls library remains closed for now

The Oconto Falls Community Library closed March 17, anticipating shutdown for two weeks. Many of you know that we are part of a large consortium of libraries across eight counties, from Appleton to Florence, Shawano to Washington Island. This involves more than 50 libraries, large and small, across northeast Wisconsin. As we all know, the hiatus lasted more than two weeks for all of us.

Oconto County election races shaping up

MADISON — A handful of partisan primaries will be held in August to set the final fall election ballot, but for the most part the races were established when the deadline for submitting nomination papers passed on June 1.

The presidential election at the top of the ballot is the main statewide race. Both of Wisconsin’s U.S. senators are in the middle of their six-year terms; Sen. Ron Johnson’s current term runs through 2022 and Sen. Tammy Baldwin through 2024.

Gillett FFA celebrates June Dairy Month

The Gillett FFA celebrated June Dairy Month by providing fresh cheese curds for the Gillett School District meal program. About 85 pounds of fresh Springside Cheese cheese curds were packaged in 3.5-ounce servings for each student. This donation was made possible by the Thrivent Action Grant and Springside Cheese. Gillett School District food service employees packing the fresh curds are, from left, Donna Prange, Janalee Jenerou, Julie Pospichal, Kristie Feffer, Joan Gruel and Maureen Wollin.
