71 Witt-Birn grads take their next steps in life

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School gymnasium was filled with family members, friends, students, teachers, administration and school board members as the 2023 graduation class received their diplomas on May 26.

Festivities kicked off with 2023 class president Taylor Bergner welcoming the audience to the gymnasium, as well as thanking everyone who has shown support for getting the class to where they are today. She also talked about what growing up with 70 of her other classmates has meant to her.

Bowler man charged with threatening police

A Bowler man was charged May 25 after allegedly being physical and threatening law enforcement in relation to a May 19 arrest.

Paul C. Malone, 35, was charged with four counts of battery or threat to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer, 21 counts of bail jumping, three misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer, one misdemeanor count of attempted criminal damage to property and two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct.

• Stephanie A. Beattie, 39, Bowler, was charged May 22 with one count of possession of narcotic drugs and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Judge Katherine Sloma set a cash bond of $250 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for May 31.

• Desiree A. Webster, 25, Suring, was charged May 22 with three counts of bail jumping and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Sloma set a cash bond of $100 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for June 9.

Officers responded to 18 calls, including criminal damage on South Prospect Street; a drug offense at Walmart, 1244 E. Green Bay St.; a fight in progress at Hensels Shawano Inn, 134 S. Washington St.; harassment at Memorial Park, 901 S. Lincoln St.

May 28

Officers responded to 19 calls, including a disturbance on East Ridlington Avenue; a disturbance on South Sawyer Street; a fleeing/pursuit on North Lincoln Street; reckless driving on East Green Bay Street.

Witt-Birn OKs Wi-Fi, interactive board purchases

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood School Board approved a purchase for six New View sonic boards during its meeting on May 23.

The new boards will help to replace projectors in the district that have become old and worn, according to Technology Director Matt Heindel.

“A lot of our classroom display technology across all of the buildings is really getting aged,” said Heindel. “I would guess ten years old at least. So, we are looking to at least try and start with this new situation — it is an interactive board.”

Historical society to unveil photo exhibit

The history of Wittenberg will on display for visitors at the WOWSPACE this summer.

The Wittenberg Historical Society is currently in the process of collecting pictures, postcards and other artifacts to showcase the evolution of the village in an exhibit on July 21 from 4-8 p.m. The hours will also extend to July 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as July 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Darrick L. Sechrist, 36, Milwaukee, was charged May 15 with two counts of bail jumping and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court Judge William Kussel Jr. set a cash bond of $500 and scheduled a status conference for June 14.

• Jennifer L. Dowell, 36, Shawano, was charged May 15 with one count of stalking, one misdemeanor count of battery and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Kussel set a cash bond of $2,000 and scheduled a status conference for June 6.

A final sendoff for seniors in Tigerton

The Tigerton School District said farewell to 17 of its students during the district’s graduation ceremony on May 19.

Tigerton High School Principal Nate Johnson opened the ceremony thanking family, friends, students and the graduating seniors for attending. During his speech, Johnson paid homage to the students, saying that he was “exceptionally proud” of those that are taking their next steps in life.
