The Public Service Commission recently increased Shawano Municipal Utility’s electric rates but didn’t honor its request to end the rate subsidy enjoyed by its largest customer.
Rates for residential customers will increase about 3%. Those currently paying $61.42 monthly for 1,000 kilowatt hours will pay $64.10 for the same amount of power when the new rates take effect as of Jan. 31, according to PSC documents.
The PSC declined SMU’s initial request to increase Aarrowcast, Inc.’s rates by 23%, which would be high enough to recover the cost of serving its largest customer.
