Krabbenhoft promoted to Wisconsin’s associate head coach

Joe Krabbenhoft has been promoted to associate head coach of the Wisconsin men’s basketball program after seven years as an assistant coach at Wisconsin, head coach Greg Gard announced June 13.

“Joe has been integral to our sustained success as one of the nation’s most consistent programs,” Gard said. “He continues to check every box you could possibly want in a coach, recruiter, teacher and mentor for our student-athletes. He has a superb understanding of who we are, who we need to be, and what and who makes us successful on and off the court at Wisconsin.

Wisconsin adds transfer Max Klesmit

The Wisconsin men’s basketball program announced the newest addition to its roster, as head coach Greg Gard shared on May 6 that Max Klesmit will transfer and play basketball for the Badgers beginning in the fall of 2022.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Neenah, Klesmit played the past two seasons at Wofford. The team’s second-leading scorer last season, Klesmit started all 31 games as a sophomore while averaging 14.9 points (44.6% field goal), 2.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He earned Southern Conference Third Team honors.

Wisconsin’s Barnes, Davison earn Big Ten Medal of Honor

Two of the University of Wisconsin’s exemplary student-athletes have received the Big Ten Conference’s highest distinction.

Volleyball libero Lauren Barnes and men’s basketball player Brad Davison were named April 19 as Wisconsin’s recipients of the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The awards were presented as part of UW’s 2022 Buckinghams: The Student-Athlete Annual Showcase of Excellence. This year’s Buckinghams were held in person at Overture Center.

Wisconsin adds transfer Kamari McGee

Wisconsin men’s basketball program head coach Greg Gard announced April 13 that Kamari McGee will transfer and play basketball for the Badgers beginning in fall 2022.

A 6-foot guard from Racine, McGee played this past season at Green Bay. The team’s leading scorer, McGee averaged 11.6 points and 1.9 assists per game, shooting 38.8% from the floor (80.8% from the free-throw line). McGee was named to the Horizon League’s All-Freshman Team and was the league’s freshman of the week three times.

Bowman leaving Wisconsin to play closer to his Detroit home

Guard Lorne Bowman is leaving Wisconsin to play somewhere closer to his Detroit home.

Bowman played 22 games this season and averaged 3 points, 1.1 rebound and 10.4 minutes.

He had taken a leave of absence for the entire 2020-21 season and returned home to deal with a family matter.

Badgers’ Mertz remains upbeat after offseason speculation

Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz says his confidence hasn’t wavered even during an offseason in which Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams’ name got mentioned as his potential replacement.

Mertz is now working with a new receiving corps and new offensive coordinator as he attempts to gain consistency and live up to the lofty expectations that accompanied his arrival.

Wisconsin adds Luke Haertle as preferred walk-on

Wisconsin men’s basketball head coach Greg Gard announced April 4 the addition of Luke Haertle as a preferred walk-on joining the 2022 signing class.

A 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior, Luke Haertle accepted a preferred walk-on offer to join the Badgers. A standout from Lake Country Lutheran, Haertle amassed 2,264 points and more than 1,000 rebounds during his prep career.

Badgers’ Johnny Davis wins 2022 Jerry West Award

The trophy case continues to grow for Johnny Davis, as the Wisconsin sophomore standout added another award to his collection when he was named the 2022 Jerry West Award winner by the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 2.

Given to the nation’s best shooting guard, Davis becomes the first Badger to win the award in school history.

Wisconsin’s Davis says he’s entering NBA draft, hiring agent

Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis is ready to turn pro after delivering a superb sophomore season.

Davis announced March 31 that he’s entering the NBA draft and hiring an agent. The 6-foot-5 guard is regarded as a likely lottery selection and could be Wisconsin’s first top-10 overall pick since the Charlotte Hornets took Frank Kaminsky ninth overall in 2015.

The only other Badgers to be selected in the top 10 of an NBA draft are Don Rehfeldt (second in 1950) and Devin Harris (fifth in 2004).

Davis made his announcement on ESPN’s “NBA Today” and later posted on social media.

Badgers’ Mellusi hopeful he can be ready for start of season

Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi says he has reached out to former Clemson teammate and current Green Bay Packers wide receiver Amari Rodgers for advice on recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Rodgers tore the ACL in his right knee in March 2019 but was playing for Clemson less than six months after undergoing surgery. Mellusi is hoping to be ready for the start of the 2022 season after tearing his left ACL last November.
