Ex-Wisconsin receiver Cephus sues school over 2018 expulsion

Former Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus said in a lawsuit filed Feb. 23 against the university that he was used as a scapegoat during a sexual assault investigation that resulted in his temporary expulsion.

Cephus seeks unspecified damages in his lawsuit filed in federal court in Madison, accusing the defendants of violating his due process rights, violating Title IX provisions and breach of contract.

The Wisconsin Badgers captured the Duke's Mayo Bowl and the trophy that came along with it.

And then they broke it.

While dancing around to celebrate his team's 42-28 victory over Wake Forest on Dec. 30, quarterback Graham Mertz dropped the football-shaped piece of Lenox crystal, leaving it shattered on the floor of the locker room after it fell off its base.

“We just wanted everybody to have a piece of that trophy,” Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst joked.

That would seem appropriate.

Wisconsin football team to play Wake Forest in Duke’s Mayo Bowl

Fresh off an overtime win over rival Minnesota to retain Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the Wisconsin football team has accepted a bid to play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Dec. 30 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Badgers (3-3) will square off against Wake Forest (4-4) from the ACC at Bank of America Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. The game will kick off at 11 a.m. and be televised by ESPN.

Larsh's FG lifts Wisconsin's football team past Minnesota in OT

Wisconsin's Garrett Groshek picked the perfect time to have the biggest game of his career.

Collin Larsh kicked a 30-yard field goal in overtime to give the Badgers a 20-17 victory over Minnesota on Dec. 19 in the battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the most-played rivalry in the FBS, but Groshek made it possible.

Minnesota failed to score on its first possession in overtime when Anders Gelecinskyj, who moved up from third-string kicker because of COVID-19 and injuries, saw his 36-yard field goal attempt sail just outside the left upright.

Minnesota and Wisconsin managed to avoid interrupting the most-played Football Bowl Subdivision rivalry this season.
Their annual battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe just happens to be taking place a little later than expected.

When a COVID-19 outbreak within Minnesota’s program caused the cancellation of its Nov. 28 game at Wisconsin, it appeared this would be the first season since 1906 without a matchup between the two Big Ten border rivals.

Wisconsin, Northern Iowa men's basketball game canceled; game added with Loyola

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced Dec. 13 that its game scheduled for Dec. 16 against Northern Iowa has been called off, after UNI announced that it will not play its final two nonconference games.

The Badgers will instead play host to Loyola (Chicago) on Dec. 15. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. on Big Ten Network.

Iowa hands Wisconsin football team 3rd loss in a row

As the snow accumulated in Kinnick Stadium, Iowa piled on the points.

The 19th-ranked Hawkeyes scored three touchdowns as the snow picked up in intensity in the second half on Dec. 12, and they pulled away for a 28-7 victory over No. 25 Wisconsin.

“If I had my way, it would be 70 and sunny,” Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras said, laughing.

Petras, a California native, looked right at home in the flurries, throwing for 211 yards and two touchdowns, both to wideout Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

Wisconsin offense stifled in loss to Indiana

Jack Tuttle threw two touchdown passes in his first career start and Indiana’s defense made a stand in the final minute as the 10th-ranked Hoosiers outlasted No. 18 Wisconsin 14-6 on Dec. 5 in Madison.

Indiana’s victory snapped a 10-game skid in this series and enabled the Hoosiers (6-1) to tie a program record with its sixth Big Ten victory of the season. Indiana also earned six Big Ten wins in 1967 and 1987. The Hoosiers hadn’t beaten Wisconsin since 2002.

Mertz ready to bounce back as Badgers host Indiana

After doing little wrong in his first two starts, Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz couldn’t do much right in his last appearance.

That puts the redshirt freshman in an unfamiliar position as he tries to bounce back from a loss for the first time in his career Saturday when the 18th-ranked Badgers (2-1) host No. 10 Indiana (5-1).

Mertz threw three interceptions and lost a fumble in a 17-7 loss at Northwestern . Now he faces an Indiana defense that has picked off 16 passes, the most of any Football Bowl Subdivision team.

Badgers men’s basketball’s Reuvers named to 2021 Wooden Award watch list

The list of accolades continues to grow for Badger big man Nate Reuvers, who was named to the 2021 John R. Wooden Award preseason top 50 watch list, presented by Wendy’s and announced Tuesday on ESPN’s SportsCenter and on ESPN.com.

The senior forward from Lakeville, Minnesota was listed as one of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the John R. Wooden All-American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award.
