Wisconsin men's basketball team sets home-and-home series with Arizona

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced on May 22 that it has agreed to a home-and-home series with Arizona, adding an exciting matchup to its schedule for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

The Badgers are scheduled to travel to Tucson to face the Wildcats on Dec. 9. Arizona is set to make its first-ever appearance in Madison for a matchup at the Kohl Center on Nov. 15, 2024.

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced its latest roster addition on April 26, as head coach Greg Gard shared that AJ Storr will transfer and play basketball for the Badgers beginning in the fall of 2023.

A 6-foot-6 guard from Rockford, Illinois, Storr transferred to the Badgers after playing his freshman season at St. John’s. The Big East All-Freshman team honoree played in all 33 games for the Red Storm, averaging 8.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. He shot 43.4% from the floor, including 40.4% from 3-point range.

Wisconsin men's basketball to host Tennessee at Kohl Center

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced on April 20 that it will host Tennessee for a nonconference game at the Kohl Center this upcoming season on November 10.

The matchup is part of a home-and-home series that the Badgers and Volunteers agreed to back in 2019. UW traveled to Knoxville during the 2019-20 season, earning a 68-48 win at Thompson-Boling Arena. Wisconsin was originally scheduled to host Tennessee the following season, but was unable to due to complications from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21.

Badgers’ Tanner Mordecai already emerging as team leader

Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai originally planned to spend this month preparing for the NFL draft rather than gearing up for one last college season at a third school.

“I was about 90% sure I was going to put my name in the draft and do the whole pro route,” Mordecai said April 12 during a day off from spring practice. “I got some feedback from some scouts and teams about where I’d be drafted, and I wasn’t super-fired up about the feedback.”

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced its newest roster addition on April 13, as head coach Greg Gard shared that Noah Reynolds will transfer and play basketball for the Badgers beginning in fall 2023.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Peoria, Illinois, Reynolds spent the past two seasons at Wyoming, where he played in a total of 42 games averaging 8.1 points per game and 45.8% shooting.

Wisconsin’s Tyler Wahl says he’s returning for fifth season

Wisconsin’s Tyler Wahl says he plans to return to the Badgers next season for his fifth year of eligibility.

The 6-foot-9 forward announced his decision on social media. Wahl is capitalizing on the extra year of eligibility the NCAA granted players due to the pandemic.

“I have always wanted to leave the Wisconsin jersey better than I found it and our team has accomplished a lot over the last few years … but we’re not finished,” Wahl said in his announcement.

He added: “I can’t wait to create new memories with this group of guys and this program.”

Wisconsin hires Mike Hastings away from Minnesota State

Wisconsin has filled its men’s hockey head coaching vacancy by hiring Mike Hastings away from Minnesota State.

Athletic director Chris McIntosh announced the hire on March 30. Hastings replaces Tony Granato, who was fired after going 105-129-16 in seven seasons at Wisconsin.

Hastings posted a 299-109-25 record at Minnesota State that included consecutive Frozen Four appearances in 2021 and 2022. Minnesota State lost 5-1 to Denver in the 2022 NCAA championship game.

Wisconsin’s Allen earns Walter Camp Preseason All-American Honors

Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen was named a Walter Camp Preseason Second-Team All-American on March 31.

Allen is the fifth Badger in program history to run for 1,000 yards as both a freshman and a sophomore and is gearing up for his junior season in a new-look Wisconsin offense.

The Fond du Lac native ran for 1,242 yards and 11 touchdowns as the Badgers’ lead back on his way to second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2022.

Wisconsin women win 7th NCAA hockey title

Kirsten Simms scored a goal and Cami Kronish had 31 saves to help Wisconsin beat top-seeded and defending NCAA champion Ohio State 1-0 on March 19 in Duluth, Minnesota, earning the Badgers their record seventh national title.

Simms, who hid behind Ohio State’s Lauren Bernard in front of the net, flicked a wrister into the goal to give Wisconsin the lead at 13:28 of the first period.

Wisconsin fires Tony Granato as men’s hockey coach

Wisconsin has fired Tony Granato as men’s hockey coach after a second straight losing season.

Granato posted a 105-129-16 overall mark and 65-87-2 Big Ten record during his seven seasons. Wisconsin ended a 13-23 season Saturday, losing to Michigan in the Big Ten quarterfinals.
