Seefeldt wins gold at state track meet

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy senior Anthony Seefeldt was crowned the Division 3 state champion in the shot put at the WIAA Track and Field State Championships at UW-La Crosse on May 31 and June 1.

He earned the title with a throw of 51 feet, 9.25 inches.

Junior Eva Brooks placed second in the high jump, notching a height of 5 feet 5 inches.

Zander Thomson competed but didn’t record a height in the high jump.

Sectionals at Hudson

Two relay teams and five individuals will represent Shawano at the state Division 1 track meet May 31 at UW-La Crosse.

At the sectional meet in Hudson, the girls 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams each won the gold.

The 4x800 team of Bailey Hendricks, Adalyn Barkley, Lily Guenther and Grace Chelberg set a new school record of 9:38.95.

The 4x400 team of Maci Beyer, Chelberg, Tela Hopfensperger and Barkley also set a new school record at 4:03.12.

Division 1 Regional, D.C. Everest

Both the Shawano boys and girls track and field teams finished fifth in team scoring at the WIAA Division 1 regional meet hosted by D.C. Everest. Top finishers for the Hawks and advancing to sectionals at Hudson on May 23 were:

First place girls: Hatty Fritz, discus; Adalyn Barkley, triple jump, new school record at 34 feet 9 inches, Lily Guenther, 3,200; 4x800 relay team of Bailey Hendricks, Barkley, Guenther and Grace Chelberg (alternates, Maci Beyer and Emma Neilson).

Coach Heinz Throwers Invitational

Shawano’s Matty Fitz captured first place in the the discus and shot put at the home meet. Madisyn Weinig finished second in the shot put and third in the discus.

For the boys, Drew Chelberg placed second in the discus, and Mason Theis was second int he shot put.

Dale Peterson Invitational

Menominee Indian athletes returned home with four gold medals and several others from an invite in Antigo.

Chargers win several events at Rosholt Relays

Rosholt Relays

Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls captured several first-place finishes at the Rosholt Relays.

Faith Resch won the high jump and the triple jump. Kelsie Davis won the discus.

Ava Brei placed second in the long jump with Kylee Beversdorf in third. Nora Bushman finished second in the triple jump.

Relay teams winning their races were the 4x100, 4x800, 4x1,600 and 4x100 shuttle hurdles.

The 4x400 relay team placed second.

Shawano boys take second at conference meet

Bay Conference Meet

Led by strong performances from seniors Will Chelberg, Ethan Onesti and Drake Herm, the Shawano boys track team placed second at the Bay Conference Championship Meet at West De Pere.

“These guys really came through for us today and turned in some really clutch performances as individuals and as key pieces of our relays,” said coach Joe Guenther. The Shawano girls were led to a third-place team finish by a performance from senior Hatty Fritz, who won the girls shot put and took second in the discus.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood Lions Invite

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls won their home Lions Invite, with the Bonduel boys finishing second, the best among area teams and just five points behind Edgar.

Winning for the Chargers were Nora Bushman in the 800-meter run, Faith Resch in the 100-meter hurdles and the triple jump, the 4x400-meter relay team and the 4x800 team.

Pulaski boys win at Chilton

Myrhum Invitational

Pulaski’s girls scored 21 points at a multi-team event at Arrowhead High School.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Addison Krueger, Lily Urben, Faye Brunke and Olivia Sprangers placed third.

May 3

Bay Port Invitational

Both the Shawano boys and girls track and field teams finished sixth out of the 11 teams at the Bay Port DeMerit Invitational.

Bay Conference Quad

Both Shawano boys and girls track and field teams finished first in New London at a Bay Conference track meet with New London, Menasha and Green Bay West.

Grace Chelberg won the 1,600-meter run and set a new school record of 5 minutes, 20.5 seconds.

Also finishing in first place were Bailey Hendricks in the 800-meter run, Adalyn Barkley in the 400- and 200-meter dashes, Tela Hopfensperger in the 300-meter hurdles and Madisyn Weinig in the shot put.

Hawks shine at night

April 27

Six members of the Shawano Hawks track and field team received invitations to compete in the elite Hale Distance Night in West Allis.

In this unique meet, only the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs are contested, and it draws many of the best runners from across the state. All runners must meet qualifying standards to be offered a chance to compete, and it is in many ways a preview to the Wisconsin state track meet. Despite cold and windy conditions, the rain held off.
