Ruth L. Bowers, 85 of Wittenberg, died on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Homme Home of Wittenberg.

Ruth was born on Nov. 14, 1935, in the town of Mosinee to August and Frieda (Ahrens) Gruetzmacher. She was baptized on Nov. 19. 1935 in the family home by the pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Mosinee. She was also confirmed by the same minister on June 27, 1948. Ruth attended Rock Ridge Grade School for the eight grades and then went to Mosinee High School, graduating June 3, 1953.

Thomas A. Smith, aka “Taco” and “Graaavy,” died peacefully with his wife by his side on Oct. 31, 2020, after a courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

Shirley E. Hartleben, 90, of Wittenberg, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at Aspirus Hospice House, Wausau.

Shirley was born Jan. 15, 1930, the daughter of Elmer and Ethel (Tullberg) Johnson. She moved to the area from Milwaukee in 1938, at the age of 8. She attended and graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1947.

Cecil S. Johnson

Cecil S. Johnson, 85, formerly of the Town of Plover, Marathon County, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Cecil was born March 26, 1935, in Birnamwood, the son of Cecil B. and Linda (Pick) Johnson.

On Nov. 26, 1955, Cecil was united in marriage to Catherine Tautges at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. The couple were blessed with over 60 years together. Catherine passed away on May 29, 2016.

Robert D. Alberg

Robert D. Alberg, 90, of Wittenberg, went to be with Jesus his Savior on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg.

Robert was born July 6, 1930, in the Town of Morris, the son of Bert and Doris (Simpson) Alberg.

On May 31, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Lorna Krueger in Split Rock.

Patricia M. Steckbauer

Patricia “Pat” Mae Steckbauer died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 15, 2020. Born July 20, 1932, to Dr. Orville and Mrs. Donna Damp, Pat was the oldest of four children.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Craig, and is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Skodinski and Susan Knight; and sons, William and Robert Nauta; daughter, Carmel Peterson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert August Roth

Robert August Roth, 93, of Eland, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg, where he had been a resident since 2016.

Bob was born March 3, 1927, in the Town of Birnamwood to August and Elizabeth (Freitag) Roth. He grew up on the family farm in the Eland area.

Bob was united in marriage to LaVerne Pingel on April 28, 1946, in Clintonville. Together they shared 69 years of marriage. LaVerne preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2015.

Dorothy K. Gildseth

Dorothy “Dee” Kay Gildseth died Oct. 21, 2020, at the age of 82 after a brief illness at Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenberg. She was born Jan. 4, 1938, to Jerrold and Emma (McMullen) Seaver and was baptized into the Lutheran faith by the late Rev. E.G. Burtness at Capron Lutheran Church, Capron, Illinios. Dee was raised on the family dairy farm near Capron and was the youngest of four children.

Ruth A. Draeger

Ruth A. Draeger, 79, of Mosinee, died on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Ruth was born on Nov. 20, 1940, in Birnamwood, the daughter of Erick and Dorothy (Zimmerman) Jaeck.

On Aug. 29, 1964, Ruth was united in marriage to Donald Draeger at Trinity Lutheran Church, Birnamwood.

Robert E. Thorson

Robert E. Thorson, 51, of Tigerton, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at Copperleaf Terrace under Interim Hospice Services.

Robert was born June 30, 1969, in Appleton, the son of Lester and Juretta (Lund) Thorson.

Robert was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, in the Town of Morris, where he loved attending services. He worked as an iron pourer at the Waupaca Foundry for 19 years. Robert enjoyed walking his dogs and walked up to 10 miles a day. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially snowmobiling and kayaking.
