Pulaski’s Shaw 2nd in 3-point challenge

Pulaski High School senior Derek Shaw placed second in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association boys 3-point challenge on March 18 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Shaw opened the challenge with a 19-point first round before a 22-point showing in the next round. In the finals, Shaw scored 16 points.

Kon Knueppel of Wisconsin Lutheran won the event with a score of 20 in the finals. He had 15 points in the first round and 22 in the second round.

Pulaski High School senior Derek Shaw was announced as one of the 10 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association boys participants in the 3-point challenge.

The 3-point challenge will take place at 9:30 a.m. on March 18 at the Kohl Center in Madison. The boys state tournament runs March 16-18. Fans can attend the 3-point challenge with tickets from the morning or afternoon session.

Participants are chosen based on their 3-point shooting numbers entered into www.wissports.net.

10 Red Raider wrestlers make FRCC teams

Ten Pulaski High School wrestlers made Fox River Classic Conference teams after the team enjoyed another strong conference showing.

Ethan Eggert, Trenton Gibbons, Conner Nooyen and Mason Taylor all made the first team for Pulaski. Will Friedman, Tristan Taylor, Chase Woosencraft, Colin Pratt and Griffin Vanlannen landed on the second team, while Jake Fredrickson was an honorable mention.

Gibbons went 7-0 across his FRCC matches between the 195- and 220-pound weight classes as a senior. Eggert, another senior, was 7-0 between the 120 and 126 weight classes.

Pulaski High School senior Derek Shaw earned a spot on the Fox River Classic Conference second team after a big winter season on the basketball court.

It was the second all-conference honor of Shaw’s career after making the honorable mention list as a junior.

“I feel like I made a step up this year in terms of an overall player. Got some recognition from coaches and made a jump from last year’s honorable mention,” said Shaw. “It means a lot to me to be all-conference considering all the great players in the FRCC.”

2 Pulaski girls basketball players make FRCC honorable mention team

Pulaski High School’s Ella Wiese and Madeline Christenson each earned spots on the Fox River Classic Conference honorable mention team in their senior basketball seasons.

It marks the second straight honorable mention nod for Wiese, while Christenson earned a conference honor for the first time.

Pulaski boys pair honored for play on ice

A pair of Pulaski High School boys hockey players earned spots on Fox River Classic Conference teams for their play on the Ashwaubenon co-op this winter.

Senior Lincoln Simons landed on the second team for his play as a goaltender. Senior Anthony Steffen made the honorable mention list for his efforts as a forward.

“Pretty disappointed as my goal was to be first team all-conference again, but still was an honor to be all-conference all four years of high school hockey,” said Simons of the honor.

Bay Area girls hockey team wins state title

Pulaski High School’s Briana Anundsen, Olympia Simons and Faye Brunke helped the Bay Area Ice Bears girls hockey team win the state title on March 4 at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton.

Bay Area capped a special winter season with a 3-0 win over Superior/Northwestern in the championship game. The Ice Bears topped the Middleton co-op 4-1 on March 2 in the state semifinal.

Pulaski’s Gibbons 3rd at state tournament

Pulaski High School’s Trenton Gibbons capped his strong high school career with a third-place finish in the Division 1 182-pound weight class during the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual State Tournament on Feb. 23-25 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Marna Andre also made the podium for the Red Raiders, coming in sixth in the girls 235 weight class. Pulaski’s Mason Wells earned a 2-2 record at state at the 220 weight class, while Broc Ambrosius dropped both of his matches at 113 pounds.

Athlete Profile: Madeline Christenson

The girls basketball season is soon coming to a close, meaning seniors have just a couple more chances to represent their respective high schools. Pulaski’s Madeline Christenson is making her team proud and peaking at just the right time in her career.

In her senior season, Christenson is one of Pulaski’s leading scorers. She also ranks in the top 15 in the Fox River Classic Conference in 3-point and free throw percentage.

Witt-Birn, Pulaski wrestling teams fall in team sectional semifinals

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Pulaski wrestling teams each lost in sectional semifinal duals on Feb. 14.

Witt-Birn fell 58-18 to Shiocton in a Division 3 dual in Suring. Pulaski lost 38-27 to Wisconsin Rapids in Schofield.

The Chargers won four weight classes against Shiocton.

David Gauderman and Easton Davis earned forfeit wins at 220 and 120 pounds, respectively. George Seegmiller won a 4-2 decision at 285 pounds, while Devin Wudtke won by a 15-2 major decision at 126 pounds.
