Pulaski Legion team finishes 1-2 in first week of games

The Pulaski Legion baseball team opened its summer season with three games between June 19-22, posting a 1-2 record.

Pulaski got the season started with an 11-1 win in six innings over Reedsville on June 19 in Pulaski.

Caden Czyzewski, Logan Hochevar, Logan Brabant and Cade Dorn each drove in two runs for Pulaski in the win. Caden Rybicki, Gavin Ostrenga, Hochevar and Brabant posted two hits each, while Bryce Wotruba led the team with three runs scored.

Pulaski’s Gianna Logue named top girls soccer player

Only Pulaski and Shawano serve as the area’s girls soccer teams, but there was still some standout individual and team play that happened this spring.

Pulaski’s Gianna Logue was classified as a defender, but had an impact all over the field and was named the NEW Media Inc. Girls Soccer Player of the Year for her efforts.

“I enjoyed the spring season for many many reasons, one being able to play with my sister (Isabella) and playing under my mom (Kelly).” said Logue.

Vertz, Thompson split top softball player honor

Area high school softball teams enjoyed plenty of success during the spring season, with a few teams and several individuals standing out.

It was Pulaski junior Morgan Vertz and Bonduel junior Hailee Thompson who were the top performers throughout the season, and were named the NEW Media Inc. Players of the Year for their efforts.

Both players were named Co-Players of the Year in their respective conferences and landed on all-state second teams.

Pulaski’s Logue, Decker make FRCC 1st team

Five Pulaski High School girls soccer players made Fox River Classic Conference teams this spring, led by Gianna Logue and Veronica Decker and their first-team selections.

Isabella Logue made the all-conference second team for Pulaski, while Laci Lemke and Josie Steeno were honorable mentions.

Gianna Logue made the all-conference first team for her play on defense in her senior season.

Along with providing strong defense, Logue scored nine goals on the season, with four coming in FRCC matches.

Olson represents Pulaski on all-conference lists

Pulaski High School’s Kyle Olson earned a pair of Fox River Classic Conference honors after a strong junior baseball season.

Olson made the all-conference first team as a utility/designated hitter. He landed on the honorable mention list as a pitcher.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be able to be awarded with two all-conference awards because it’s one way that shows that all the work and time you have put into the game of baseball is paying off,” said Olson.

Pulaski’s Vertz the Co-Player of the Year in FRCC

Pulaski High School’s Morgan Vertz was named the Co-Player of the Year in the Fox River Classic Conference after a huge junior season on the softball diamond.

Vertz landed on the all-conference first team as a pitcher, but also starred at the plate for the Red Raiders. She shared the Player of the Year honor with Green Bay Preble sophomore Katie Geydoshek.

Vertz was an absolute workhorse for Pulaski, pitching in all 18 conference games. She covered 100⅓ innings, striking out 153 batters and walking just 19.

Pulaski girls soccer team eliminated in sectional semifinal

A Division 2 girls soccer sectional semifinal match between Pulaski and West De Pere on June 8 in De Pere turned out to be a game of inches in what ended with a 2-0 West De Pere victory.

West De Pere barely snuck in two goals in the first half to account for the scoring, while Pulaski had several shot attempts bang off the goalposts.

“It was a good game all around. Sometimes, you got the luck, and sometimes it just literally bounces not our way,” said Pulaski coach Kelly Logue.

Pulaski girls soccer team wins regional title

The Pulaski High School girls soccer team won a Division 2 regional title after winning a pair of matches last week.

The third-seeded Red Raiders opened the postseason with a convincing 9-1 win over 14th-seeded Beaver Dam in a regional semifinal on May 30 in Pulaski. Pulaski then took down sixth-seeded Slinger by a score of 3-1 in the regional final on June 3 in Pulaski.

Pulaski, Bonduel softball teams eliminated in sectional semifinals

The Pulaski and Bonduel softball teams were both eliminated from the playoffs after sectional semifinal losses on May 30.

Third-seeded Pulaski fell 11-1 in six innings to second-seeded Green Bay Preble. Top-seeded Bonduel lost 9-6 to third-seeded Iola-Scandinavia in Bonduel.

Pulaski jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a Cassie Benberg home run in the first inning, but things went downhill after that. Preble scored five times in its half of the first and four more times in the second to pull away. Single runs in the fourth and sixth for the hosts ended the contest.

The Pulaski High School girls soccer team eased to a Division 2 regional semifinal playoff win over Beaver Dam on May 30 in Pulaski.

The third-seeded Red Raiders won 9-1 over the 14th-seeded Golden Beavers. Pulaski will host No. 6 Slinger in a regional final at 7 p.m. on June 3.

Shawano, a No. 13 seed, also played in a regional semifinal match on May 30, falling 8-0 to No. 4 Nicolet in Milwaukee.

Veronica Decker had a huge night in Pulaski's win, scoring three goals and getting credit for two assists.
