Bucks’ title gives state’s sports fans relief from heartbreak

For most of my life, and especially the last decade or so, Wisconsin sports teams have provided plenty instances of heartbreak. The curse was finally broken with the Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA title.

The Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers have provided their share of heartbreak, with the Bucks joining the party in recent years.

Green Bay proves naysayers wrong

For a second straight year, the Green Bay Packers posted a 13-3 record during the regular season.

This time, that mark was good enough for the top record in the NFC, which gave the Packers the No. 1 seed and the lone conference bye week. The team will get a week to rest up before gearing up for a divisional round playoff game. The only postseason game the Packers won’t play at Lambeau Field will be if the team reaches the Super Bowl.

The Green Bay Packers offensive showing against the Carolina Panthers left many people questioning several aspects of the Pack’s offense.

Coach Matt LaFleur talked about getting away from the running game in the final half after it had been so effective during the first half. The Packers offensive line had one of its worst pass protecting games of the season as quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times.

While those things certainly played a role in the offense’s shortcomings, a lack of pass-catchers outside standout receiver Davante Adams also was an issue.

The Green Bay Packers checked off their first big goal of the season Dec. 13 when they won the NFC North title after a road win over the Detroit Lions. But the team is far from satisfied.

Following a surprise Philadelphia Eagles win over the New Orleans Saints, the Packers surged ahead of the Saints for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Packers own the tiebreaker after taking down the Saints way back in late September, and so now the green and gold controls their own destiny.

The NFL season is in the home stretch. Before you know it, the postseason will be here, and 14 teams will set their sights on the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

There is still plenty to be decided in the NFC playoff race, as all 16 teams in the conference are still alive.

The Green Bay Packers are locked in a tightly contested battle for the No. 1 seed, which under the new playoff format are the only seeds that receive a bye week.

The legend of Aaron Rodgers continues to grow.

The successor to Brett Favre has lived up to the hype since being drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft and taking over as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback in 2008, leading to the organization to a Super Bowl win in the 2010-11 season and collecting two Most Valuable Player awards (2011-12 and 2014-15).

Just when people thought the future hall-of-famer might be declining, Rodgers has responded with one of the best seasons of his career and is in the MVP discussion again.

The Green Bay Packers decided not to bolster their receiving corps at the trade deadline, which meant guys already on the roster needed to step up to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers more options in the passing game outside receiver Davante Adams.

Use hunting to escape chaos of 2020

2020 has been about as chaotic a year as one could imagine. It’s been hard to not think everything that’s going on, but being out in the woods hunting has been one of the few places I’ve been able to escape it all.

I’ve spent several weekends bowhunting already this fall and have a few more planned, plus some time during rifle season.

During my hunts so far, it’s like the coronavirus doesn’t exist anymore.

The Green Bay Packers are known as a franchise that primarily builds through the NFL Draft, not making too many big free agent signings or blockbuster trades.

It’s led to sustained success and numerous playoff appearances, but it’s also held the organization back from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy more often. While the success during the Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers eras in Green Bay is right up there with the top teams in the league, only having combined for two titles over that stretch has left fans unsatisfied.

The Green Bay Packers strong start to the regular season came to a screeching halt on Sunday when the team was dismantled by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed just 16 of his 35 passes, was picked off twice, got sacked four times and was hit several other times.

The Packers running tandem of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams was limited to 49 yards on 14 carries, with 25 of those yards coming on one carry.
