5 area football players enjoy all-star experience

Five area high school football players enjoyed their Wisconsin Football Coaches Association all-star game experiences in Oshkosh.

Shawano’s Elliott Lowney was on the North Large team, which was coached by Shawano’s Alan Tomow. The North topped the South 21-20 on July 16 at Titan Stadium.

Lowney played his typical wide receiver position, while also punting for the team because nobody else had experience at that position. The Bemidji State commit made a difference all over the field.

Shawano Community High School athlete Elliott Lowney endured an up-and-down finish to his high school athletic career.

Lowney battled through some adversity and was a big contributor in all three sports he competed in, helping him earn the NEW Media Inc. Boys Athlete of the Year honor.

“What helped me be successful in all my sports was the dedication during the summer and not let anything distract me from what I wanted to accomplish,” said Lowney.

Shawano Community High School’s Elliott Lowney had one of the better track and field seasons of area competitors when he was a junior. A move to Division 1 competition for Shawano proved to be a worthy challenge for Lowney, but the senior was still able to enjoy a memorable season.

Lowney was named the NEW Media Inc. Boys Athlete of the Year as a result.

“Just taking care of my body helped me a lot this spring, having the perfect balance of working out and running so that I was 100% for every meet,” said Lowney, on what allowed him to have a big season.

Shawano’s Lowney takes 6th, 8th in state events

The Shawano Community High School track and field team had two individuals and a relay team compete at the 2022 State Track and Field Championships on June 3 and 4 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse, with Elliott Lowney and Isabel Roloff combining for three top-eight finishes.

Lowney placed sixth in the 200-meter dash and eighth in the 100 dash, while Roloff was seventh in the 100. Roloff was also on the girls 4x200 team that placed 22nd.

Shawano Community High School’s Elliott Lowney has been a big-time athlete in whatever high school sport he’s played over the past four years. Lowney will cap his career competing on the track and field team and looking to improve on last year’s state showing.

A year ago, Lowney placed second in the 200-meter dash at the Division 2 state meet, while also placing seventh in the 400.

He just missed out on making it to state in the 100, and he will also compete in the long jump and triple jump this spring.

5 area players named to WFCA All-Star Game rosters

Five area high school football players were named to 2022 Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game rosters on Feb. 7.

Shawano’s Elliott Lowney, Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Ben Wesolowski and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy co-op’s Blake DeDamos, Logan Shallow and Lane Whiting were named to the rosters.

Lowney is on the North Large roster, while Wesolowski is a member of the North Small team. The three co-op players will be on the South 8-player team.

The three all-star games will take place July 15-16 at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh.

Lowney commits to Bemidji State football team

Shawano Community High School senior Elliott Lowney signed a letter of intent to Bemidji State University, where he will continue his education and football career in the years to come.

Lowney signed the letter of intent in front of family, friends, teammates and coaches inside the high school on Feb. 2.

“It’s just all the hard work paying off. I’m happy all my friends and family was here to watch me sign — sign my life away,” said Lowney with a laugh, “but yeah, it just came full circle and accomplished everything I wanted to.”

Hawks’ Lowney named to all-state football team

Shawano Community High School senior Elliott Lowney was named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association honorable mention all-state team.

Lowney made the list as a wide receiver. In five games played, the senior hauled in 32 receptions for 627 yards and six touchdowns.

The Shawano Community High School track and field teams enjoyed a strong day of competition at the Division 2 WIAA State Track and Field Championships on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Juniors Isabel Roloff and Elliott Lowney led the way for the Hawks after claiming a second-place finish each. Roloff was second in the girls pole vault, while Lowney placed second in the boys 200-meter dash. Roloff cleared 11 feet, while Lowney posted a time of 22.16 seconds.

Shawano Community High School’s Isabel Roloff and Elliott Lowney each turned in second-place finishes during the Division 2 WIAA State Track & Field Championships on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Roloff claimed second in the girls pole vault, while Lowney placed second in the boys 200-meter dash. Roloff cleared 11 feet, while Lowney posted a time of 22.16 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Roloff also took fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.34. Lowney was seventh in the 400 with a mark of 50.98.
