The Milwaukee Bucks have fired coach Mike Budenholzer just over a week after their stunning first-round playoff loss to the Miami Heat spoiled a season in which they owned the NBA’s best record.

Budenholzer’s ouster comes just two years after he directed the Bucks to their first NBA title in half a century. The move also comes three weeks after the NBA finalized Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s purchase of a 25% stake in the team.

After declining a $4.55 million player option to become a free agent, Portis agreed to a four-year, $49 million deal that keeps him in Milwaukee. But he takes issue with the notion that the long-term deal brings him a sense of security.

“My mindset is always going to be that someone is trying to take my spot and I have to go hard each and every day to show why I’m worth what I’m worth,” Portis said July 7.

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed AJ Green to a two-way contract. Green will appear with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Wisconsin Herd.

A 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard out of Northern Iowa, Green was named the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year after averaging 18.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in his final season with the Panthers. He also led the MVC in 3-pointers (93) and free throws (140) made last season while shooting 41% from the field, 38.8% from 3-point land and a conference-high 91.5% from the free-throw line.

There was a stretch of homelessness while growing up. A constant shifting from one high school to another. The cancellation of an NBA draft training program due to the pandemic. A year proving himself with a G League developmental team.

MarJon Beauchamp’s journey to the NBA has been fraught with so much adversity, he questioned whether he’d even have the opportunity to get here. At one point, after missing out on the training program, Beauchamp dealt with depression and felt his chances had run out.

MarJon Beauchamp’s circuitous path to the Milwaukee Bucks included stops at four high schools, a community college and the NBA G League.

Bucks assistant general manager Milt Newton said Beauchamp even was homeless at one point.

The Bucks believe the hard road he took to the NBA will help the 6-foot-6 wing thrive now that he’s finally made it as the 24th overall pick in the draft.

Milwaukee fell apart after the first quarter and were eliminated after a game seven matchup against Boston in an Eastern Conference semifinal series on May 15 in Boston.

Giannis Antetokounmpo tallied 25 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists for the Bucks, while Jrue Holiday had 21 points and eight assists. Brook Lopez added 15 points and 10 boards.

Bobby Portis led the Milwaukee bench with 10 points and six rebounds.

Milwaukee closed out its first round series with another convincing win over Chicago on April 27 in Milwaukee.

Bucks sign Argentinian guard Luca Vildoza

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed Luca Vildoza, a 26-year-old guard from Argentina.

Vildoza played two NBA Las Vegas Summer League games last year with the New York Knicks, who waived him on Oct. 3.

The 6-foot-3 Vildoza was named the Spanish ACB League Finals MVP in 2020 after helping Baskonia win the league title. He played for Baskonia from 2017-21.

He averaged 10.6 points, 3.5 assists, 1.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 24.5 minutes in 62 games across EuroLeague and Spanish ACB competition in the 2020-21 season.

Bucks land Ibaka at deadline

The Milwaukee Bucks were involved in one trade at the NBA’s trade deadline on Feb. 10.

The trade involved the Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings and Bucks. The deal was reported by several NBA insiders, including ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Milwaukee got Los Angeles forward Serge Ibaka in the deal while sending guard Donte DiVincenzo to Sacramento and guard/forward Rodney Hood and forward Semi Ojeleye to Los Angeles. The Bucks also acquired a pair of future second-round picks and cash in the deal.
