Saginaw Valley State University

Shawano Community High School graduate Tori DePerry helped the Saginaw Valley State University women’s basketball team to a 1-1 record last week.

In a loss to Parkside on Feb. 10, DePerry tallied 13 points and five rebounds across 23 minutes.

DePerry totaled 18 points, 14 rebounds, an assist and a steal across 34 minutes and a double overtime win against Purdue Northwest on Feb. 12. She made four shots and 10 free throws in the contest.

Winona State College

Gillett Secondary School graduate Sylvia Hansen placed 19th in the 800-meter run while representing the Winona State University women’s track and field team at the Bearcat Invite on Feb. 4 and 5.

Hansen posted a time of 2 minutes, 25.4 seconds.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood graduate Maddy Pietz competed in two events for the Winona State women’s team.

Pietz was on the fourth-place finishing 4x400 relay team (3:48.89). She took 30th in the 200 (26.14),

Wisconsin Lutheran College

Bonduel High School graduate Kara Troxel helped the Wisconsin Lutheran College women’s basketball team to two blowout wins last week.

In a 34-point win over Alverno on Jan. 25, Troxel tallied seven points, three assists and three rebounds in 12 minutes. She hit three field goals, including a 3-pointer.

Troxel recorded six points, two steals and two rebounds in nine minutes when WLC topped Rockford 70-39 on Jan. 29.

Roloff, Lowney lead Shawano at state track and field meet

The Shawano Community High School track and field teams enjoyed a strong day of competition at the Division 2 WIAA State Track and Field Championships on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Juniors Isabel Roloff and Elliott Lowney led the way for the Hawks after claiming a second-place finish each. Roloff was second in the girls pole vault, while Lowney placed second in the boys 200-meter dash. Roloff cleared 11 feet, while Lowney posted a time of 22.16 seconds.

Gillett’s Schaal wins D3 girls’ discus state title

Gillett Secondary School senior Karissa Schaal won the girls discus competition to highlight the day for area athletes and relay teams at the Division 3 WIAA State Track & Field Championships on June 24 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Schaal saved her best for last, recording a throw of 122 feet, 11 inches on her final throw in the discus finals. The mark secured the state title and also established a new school record.

Shawano, Bonduel, Menominee Indian athletes eager for state track and field meets

Track and field athletes from Shawano, Bonduel and Menominee Indian are eager to end their spring seasons on high notes when competing at the WIAA 2021 State Track & Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse this week.

Shawano will have four individuals and a pair of relay teams, while Menominee Indian has one individual competing in the Division 2 meet June 25. Bonduel will have a relay team and one individual compete in the Division 3 meet June 24.

Athlete Profile: Breanna Schnell

Bonduel High School athlete Breanna Schnell has big goals for her senior track and field season, and she’s already off to a strong start.

In the team’s first event of the spring April 27, Schnell helped the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relay teams to first-place finishes. She also placed second in the long jump after a top leap of 14 feet, 11.75 inches.

7 Bears planning on playing collegiate sports

Bonduel High School held a signing day event April 28 for several senior athletes that plan on playing collegiate sports in the coming years.

Isaac Banker, Carson Robaidek, Breanna Schnell, Max Sokolski, Jayson Toellner and Kara Troxel all signed letters of intent. Kaden Bergsbaken also hopes to compete at the college level. The athletes signed their letters of intent in front of family and coaches inside the Bonduel gymnasium.
