University of Wisconsin-Extension is conducting an event to help grain producers better understand how crop insurance and marketing opportunities and tools interact and how they can best select from the available crop insurance opportunities.
The workshop will be held at 10 a.m. March 4 at the Cecil Village Hall, 111 E. Hofman St., Cecil. The registration fee of $10 includes materials, lunch and snacks. Pre-registration is requested to ensure that enough materials will be available for all participants.
The program will begin with an overview of changes to crop insurance programs for the 2026 crop year and a discussion of how farms may want to analyze their insurance options prior to the March 16 policy decision date. Discussion will then turn to marketing tools, techniques and how they can interact with crop insurance decisions, FSA programs and a farm’s economic situation.
Crops/soils Educator Scott Reuss will be leading participants through these discussions and exercises. Primary topics will include the various tools and techniques which they may choose to utilize in their marketing efforts, as well as sample exercises and analyzing pricing opportunities for the upcoming crop harvest or for grain currently in storage. The goal of the workshop is for farms to be able to develop a simple, straightforward marketing plan that improves their confidence in grain marketing decisions.
