Youth Swim: WASP wraps up winter season at state meets

PLEASANT PRAIRIE — The Wittenberg Area Swim Program wrapped up its winter season by sending six swimmers to a pair of state meets over the past two weekends.

Olivia Bessette, Rylee Crick, Kelsie Davis, Reese Dickman and Ava Hegewald represented WASP at the Wisconsin 12-and-Under Short Course State Championships from Feb. 28 through March 1 at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

WASP’s Annika Resch competed at the Wisconsin 13-and-Over Short Course State Championships from Thursday through Sunday at the RecPlex Aqua Arena in Pleasant Prairie. Faith Resch was also supposed to compete, but missed state with an illness.

Crick, competing in the 10-and-under division, swam in three events. Her best finish was 37th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Bessette, Davis, Dickman and Hegewald all swam in the 11-12 division.

Davis took part in six events, placing in the top 30 in three events. Hegewald took 22nd in her lone event.

Dickman and Bessette each swam in three events, with top finishes of 48th and 58th, respectively.

Resch placed 61st in her one event this weekend.

The next WASP season opens April 22 and the team is looking for new swimmers to join the team.

Swim practices are held at the Darwin E. Smith Aquatic Center, 400 W. Grand Ave., Wittenberg

Swimmers do not have to live in the district to be part of the team.

Rylee Crick: 37th, 100 breaststroke (1:38.08); 57th, 50 breaststroke (45.04); 68th, 50 backstroke (39.23).

Kelsie Davis: 20th, 100 breaststroke (1:16.39); 22nd, 200 butterfly (2:46.62); 28th, 50 breaststroke (34.99); 35th, 100 IM (1:09.48); 37th, 50 freestyle (27.35); 59th, 50 butterfly (31.42).

Reese Dickman: 48th, 100 breaststroke (1:20.56); 56th, 100 IM (1:17.35); 57th, 50 breaststroke (36.62).

Ava Hegewald: 22nd, 200 breaststroke (2:57.47).

Annika Resch: 61st, 50 freestyle (26.41).
