OCONTO COUNTY: PLEASE RETURN - The persons who took two large-sized horse blankets and a 20-foot driving line with snap attached, from the premises of W.A. Birr during the auction on Nov. 11, are requested to return same at once, otherwise proceedings will be instituted.

LITTLE SUAMICO: J.S. McHugh, the local manager for the Little Suamico Creamery Company, stated to The Herald editor this week that the report that the creamery would cease operations for the winter was not true. The creamery will be operated every day as it has been since the present company leased it.

OCONTO COUNTY: First Storm of Season - The first real snow and cold of the season set in sometime Tuesday night, and all day Wednesday a piercingly cold wind drove the mercury down in the neighborhood of zero. Yesterday morning the thermometer marked “4-below.”

MORGAN: Scouts on a Hike - The Boy Scouts of this city last Saturday evening hiked to the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. William Berger. It was a trial for the boys, being a seven-mile walk over muddy roads, but they made the trip in good style.

GILLETT: Edward Winkler, Town of Gillett, was brought before the Justice of the Peace charged with having driven over a fire hose in the afternoon of Nov. 6, 1929. He was fined $5 and costs making it a total $9.25 which he paid.

GILLETT: Last Friday Eugene, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Koop of this village who is a member of the Secretary Hawkins Club, greeted his parents over the radio at WTMJ, Milwaukee Journal as follows: “Hello papa and mama. This is Eugene Koop of Gillett, Wisconsin.”

OCONTO FALLS: About 25 ladies gathered at the home of Mrs. Byron McDougal on Friday afternoon to celebrate her birthdate.

OCONTO FALLS: Hyatt Flowers, who has been employed at the Raymond Drug Store, has accepted a position in Wisconsin Rapids.

SPRUCE: A miscellaneous shower was tendered Eleanor Peck at McAllisters’ Hall on Tuesday night. Miss Peck will become the bride of Edward Weingold on Nov. 21.

KELLY LAKE: Fred Gidney had his car damaged badly near Kalec when the car of Jean Saunders and Leonard Miller had a collision.

OCONTO: Dr. Robinson, local doctor, lost a $200 lawsuit against Liggett and Meyers Tobacco Company in Oconto Circuit Court Thursday. Dr. Robinson of Oconto testified he found worms in a package of cigarettes.

GILLETT: Mr. Albert Bubolz has sold his residence formerly owned by W.H. Miles to Ewald Herzog.

OCONTO: Charles L. Foley was named Oconto County Highway Commissioner by the board of supervisors on Tuesday.

SURING: An infant son born to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Erb died after birth last Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Community Memorial Hospital, Oconto Falls.

SURING: Miss Anna Holl, owner of the store at Hayes, received a severe beating when assailants robbed the store.

GILLETT: A major fire in Gillett destroyed the former Gem Theater building on Main Street; the building holds the medical offices of Dr. Donald Miller.

ABRAMS: Glenn D. Winans, 45, died as the result of an industrial accident when he was crushed by a gantry crane.

OCONTO: Terry Denny, 38, was injured when he was struck by a pickup truck during a fight in front of Fisher’s Bar. An unidentified 29-year-old man drove his truck on the sidewalk in front of Fisher’s Bar and dragged Denny 40 feet.

GILLETT: A Gillett couple died when their car struck the back of a semi-trailer loaded with scrap steel. Edna Krueger, 77, the driver of the car, and Harry Krueger, 79, were pronounced dead at the scene.

GILLETT: Christine Balliet and Amy Schneider are the recipients of the Gillett Community Scholarship offered by the Gillett Federated Women’s Club.

OCONTO FALLS: Meadow Brook 4-H Club was recently recognized for 50 years of service to the Oconto Falls community.

OCONTO FALLS: James Mondloch, chief of police for 19 years, announced his retirement to the council effective Feb. 3, 1995.

OCONTO: John Shaw, 61, passed away Nov. 10 at the Oconto Memorial Hospital.

OCONTO FALLS: Joel Delzer of the Oconto Falls Panthers was named inside linebacker on the All-Northeast Region football team.

GILLETT: A building owned by Ted Strait on Washington Street was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin Saturday.

GILLETT: On Saturday, Nov. 6, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8314 celebrated its 100th anniversary with a banquet and program at the Legion Hall in Gillett.

OCONTO COUNTY: The Oconto County Tavern League has begun a $10,000 fundraising campaign to bring the Safe Ride program to the area. Once it reaches its goal, the league will receive a matching grant of $10,000 from the state to provide transportation home for alcohol-impaired patrons.

OCONTO COUNTY: Due to a shortage of the H1N1 flu vaccine, only certain groups will be vaccinated: young children, pregnant women, household members of children under 6 months, day care providers, health care workers and 5­- to 18­-yea­r-olds with health conditions.

OCONTO COUNTY: Southern Oconto County has shown an increase in population, with Sobieski and Little Suamico growing by 28.2 and 24.5 percent respectively.
