OCONTO FALLS: GREATEST SALE WEEK IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTY — Oconto Falls the center of Christmas Shopping. Streets illuminated with electric arches. Merchants are displaying enormous stocks of all kinds of merchandise and prices are hitting rock bottom.

OCONTO FALLS: DIED — Frank, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gallus, age 3 years, 9 months, and six days, died of diptheria Sunday morning and was buried Tuesday.

OCONTO COUNTY: After the flurry of excitement caused by the coal situation, and consequent incalculable damage to business generally, the trains on all the roads have been restored, and barring weather conditions the old time arrival and departure of mails and freight is in operation.

OCONTO FALLS: The Local of the Equity Society for the town of Oconto Falls received a carload of salt last Saturday and advertised that it would be sold to members at the railway depot. They were on hand early and so great was the demand that about 50 were unsupplied.

GILLETT: It has been announced by the board of directors of the Great Northern Manufacturing Company that they had entered into an agreement with a Chicago concern. The plant will be closed for two weeks while inventory is taken.

OCONTO: Simon Blahnik Jr. was chosen superintendent of the recently established Oconto County poor farm. The selection was made by the board of trustees of the home from a field of 26 applicants. He has been acting as temporary superintendent of the county farm.

OCONTO FALLS: The funeral of 7-year-old Isadore Bunker, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bunker of this city, was held in St. Anthony’s Church on Tuesday morning.

OCONTO FALLS: Mr. Alfred Garnier is confined to his home suffering from an injury to his leg received while at work in the mill.

GILLETT: The following men were enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from Gillett on Dec. 10: Richard Cox and Irvan C. Foster.

GILLETT: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Genke became the proud parents of a daughter born on Dec. 9 at the Shawano Hospital.

SURING: A 33-year-old mother of eight children, Mrs. Edward Long was fatally wounded Monday afternoon by the accidental discharge of a rifle she knocked from a nail in a closet in her home.

GILLETT: It was reported Wednesday morning that Carl Rank has been appointed fire chief for the town of Gillett.

DEGANTOWN: Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ahlborg on the arrival of a son born Dec. 10.

OCONTO: Following in the family tradition, Jack William Karban IV recieved the name which belongs to his father, grandfather and deceased great-grandfather. He was born Dec. 8.

OCONTO: Clifford Olson, Milwaukee, was arrested and charged with the Nov. 9 beating of Anna Holl, Hayes store owner. Clarence Olson failed to appear in court on Dec. 10 in regard to the beating of Holl. A bench warrant was issued and state-wide alert was put out for him.

OCONTO COUNTY: Oconto County Dairy Promotions Inc. gave Santa a hand in Oconto County and provided Santa and his helpers with cheese for the kids.

OCONTO: Jeremy Courchaine, Christy Brook 4-H Club, received a medal for best actor at the annual 4-H Drama Festival. Cara Nelson, Hintz 4-H Club, won the best actress medal.

LAKEWOOD: The chancery office of the Diocese of Green Bay said the Rev. Earl W. Barcome has been appointed pastor at St. Mary of the Lakes Parish with stations at Silver Cliff and Crooked Lake.

SURING: Howard and Judy Lundgren received an appreciation plaque from Dr. Ray Dow, chairman of the board of directors of radio station WRVM, for their milestone of 25 years of service.

OCONTO FALLS: Oconto Falls Mayor Don Osborne vetoed a 5-1 decision by the council to begin penalizing the recycling business Can Crusher for noncompliance of its conditional use permit.

OCONTO FALLS: The Oconto Falls City Council is applauding the efforts of ST Paper in eliminating the unpleasant odor coming from the mill this fall.

OCONTO COUNTY: As of Dec. 1, Oconto County has processed 1,220 applications for energy assistance, a 22% increase compared to all of last year.
