Oconto County authorities are holding a Baraboo man in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in the early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 21.

Sheriff Todd Skarban said the Emergency Dispatch Center received a call about shots fired at a residence in the Town of Doty at about 12:52 a.m. The dispatch log indicates the call was from a residence along Heller Lane, on Star Lake northwest of Mountain.

Deputies and the Mountain Ambulance Service responded and found a 31-year-old woman from Reedsburg with a gunshot wound.

Life-saving measures immediately began on the woman, and she was transported to the Antigo Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, Skarban said.

The 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Oconto County Jail. The names of the victim and suspect had not been released as of Tuesday morning.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oconto Falls Police Department, Mountain Ambulance Service and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Skarban said an ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, the state Department of Criminal Investigation and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
