Witt-Birn girls edge Manawa to win home track and field invite

Gresham/Bowler girls claim 4th, Tigerton 5th

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls track and field team topped Manawa by one point to win the May 10 Wittenberg-Birnamwood Invite in Wittenberg.

The Witt-Birn girls accumulated 161 points to Manawa's 160. Gresham/Bowler took fourth with 42 points, while Tigerton tallied 39 points to take fifth. Marion scored three points and finished eighth.

On the boys side, Manawa won with 181 points. Witt-Birn (110.5) came in second, with Gresham/Bowler (14) in fifth.

Reese Rogowski won all four of her individual events to lead the Witt-Birn girls team. She placed first in the 100-yard dash with a time of 13.18 and was the top long jumper with a mark of 16 feet, 8 inches. She also won the 200 (27.42) and 400 (1:01.65).

Witt-Birn's Jalynn Horacek was the top finisher in the girls 100 hurdles (18.43), while teammate Allison Linke won the 300 hurdle race in 53.55.

Linke, Emma Herb, Ruby Nowinsky and London Metropulos claimed the top time in the 4x400 relay (4:36.27).

Herb won the shot put (33-8) and discus (117-5) competitions.

Leading the Witt-Birn boys was Simon Schairer, who won the 400 (55.5), 800 (2:14.67) and triple jump (40-5).

Tommy Bruski was the top finisher in the 3,200 (10:56.55).

The Gresham/Bowler girls were led by Hannah Cerveny, who placed second in the 100 hurdles (19.38) and third in the 300 hurdles (57.48). Isabella Stevens placed third in the shot put (26-4.5).

Zach Ziemer had a second-place finish in the discus (100-5) for the Gresham/Bowler boys.

Tigerton's Elizabeth Robbins placed third in the 100 (14.08) and 200 (29.67). Mary Kreklow claimed third in the 3,200 (15:18.32), while Ladia Block was third in discus (75-8).

Claire Dow posted the Marion girls top finish, placing sixth in the long jump (12-0).
