WITTENBERG — Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School’s Luis Rodriguez will attempt to extend his football career a few more seasons as he plans on trying out for the UW-Oshkosh football team.

Rodriguez, a lineman for the Chargers in his senior season, said Oshkosh has been in contact with him since about halfway through the past high school season.

After talking with lineman coach Austin Archer, Rodriguez visited the Oshkosh campus, getting to meet head coach Pat Cerroni then.

“He’s a great guy,” Rodriguez said of Cerroni. “He said if I’m trying to be a Titan he’s going to make sure I will and get to stick to that plan.”

The Witt-Birn athlete was impressed with the campus and says the atmosphere on gameday is great.

Rodriguez thanked Witt-Birn coach Bernard Holsey for helping him get noticed. “He did everything possible — he reached out to coaches, he sent me camps to go to so coaches could view in person who I was and the abilities and skill I had.”

Rodriguez was also appreciative of the support his family gave him.
