Wisconsin men's basketball team adds transfer AJ Storr

Sophomore joins the Badgers from St. John’s

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced its latest roster addition on April 26, as head coach Greg Gard shared that AJ Storr will transfer and play basketball for the Badgers beginning in the fall of 2023.

A 6-foot-6 guard from Rockford, Illinois, Storr transferred to the Badgers after playing his freshman season at St. John’s. The Big East All-Freshman team honoree played in all 33 games for the Red Storm, averaging 8.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. He shot 43.4% from the floor, including 40.4% from 3-point range.

Storr started the final 17 games of the season, averaging 11.8 points and scoring in double figures 11 times during the stretch.

“I would like to thank God first and foremost, and also my family for supporting me through all of the highs and lows during my basketball career,” Storr said. “I’m excited to officially be part of the Badger family! One of the main reasons why I chose Wisconsin is because of the winning culture that is here. I also liked how the coaching staff was involved with me during my time in the transfer portal.

“I’m excited to get to Madison and get started!”

Storr scored a career-high 23 points in a game at Creighton, shooting 9-for-16 from the field (3-5 3-pointers). He scored 15-plus points eight times last season, also including a 20-point performance against UConn.

“We’re happy to have AJ join us,” Gard said. “He’s a long, athletic player who can score in a variety of ways, and we’re excited about what he adds to our team. AJ is a driven individual and a hard worker. When we talked to others about AJ, they spoke of how he’s someone constantly in the gym working on his game. He wants to be part of a winning culture, and is determined to do what it takes. We’re ready to get to work with AJ, and we truly feel that his best basketball is still ahead of him.”

Storr was rated as four-star recruit in high school, ranking No. 84 in the ESPN Top 100 for the Class of 2022. He played a postgraduate season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, earning team MVP honors after averaging 22.8 points per game on 60% shooting.

Storr spent the 2020-21 season at AZ Compass Prep after transferring from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. He helped the Dragons finish the season 28-2 and reach the semifinals of the 2021 GEICO Nationals, averaging 11 points and four rebounds per game.
