WBHS senior Lauren Bahr receives volunteer award

Lauren Bahr, a senior at Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of time to serve their communities and their country, was granted in February by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

To be considered for the award, Bahr logged in more than 100 hours of volunteer time in a year, through school and 4-H activities. At WBHS, Bahr is an active member of the National Honor Society and Charger Athletic Club. In the 4-H club she belongs to, some of the volunteer activities include caroling, distributing gift baskets to the elderly and providing Valentines for veterans. She also works as a camp counselor in the summer, which counts toward the hours needed as it is an unpaid position.

In its 25th year, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, recognizes middle and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.

“Across the United States, young volunteers are doing remarkable things to contribute to the well-being of the people and communities around them,” said Charles Lowrey, Prudential chairman and CEO. “Prudential is honored to celebrate the contributions of these students, and we hope their stories inspire others to volunteer, too.”

Bahr had applied for a scholarship through Prudential Financial, which she didn’t receive, but she was happy to be recognized by the company with this award certificate for her hours of volunteer service.

Bahr will be swimming for Ripon College in August while pursuing a double major in psychology and education with a minor in coaching.
