WASP swimmers open season at fall meet

The Wittenberg Area Swim Program’s winter season officially began Nov. 7, but three returning swimmers represented WASP at the Howard Suamico Storm Breakers Fall Meet on Nov. 4-5 with head coach Brenna Behreandt.

Aubrey Wierzba and Aislyn Sauter, both in the girls 11-12 age category, each swam state-qualifying times in the 50-yard breaststroke for the 11-year-old single age state championship in December. Wierzba also qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Sauter, 11, placed 13th in the 50-yard breaststroke in 41.68, 20th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:19.94) and 28th in the 50-yard backstroke (42.96).

Wierzba, 11, finished ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:29.41, 12th in the 50-yard fly (36.36), 12th in the 50-yard breaststroke (41.23), 13th in the 50-yard backstroke (37.65), 27th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:16.79) and 21st in the 50-yard freestyle (32.78).

In the girls 8 and under category, Brinley Wierzba, 8, placed second in the 25-yard freestyle in 18:26, fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (59:31) and fourth in the 15-yard fly (22.71).
