Members of the Shawano Allied Vets Council will hold a parade and program on Memorial Day.

The parade will line up at 8:45 a.m. at Huckleberry Harbor, step off at 9:20 a.m. and march along Fifth Street to Woodlawn Cemetery.

Political campaigning, political ads, candy, sirens and horn blowing are not allowed. The only music to be played during this solemn march of reverence will be by the school bands.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. at the cemetery.

Dennis Bohm, Shawano Allied Vets Council president, will be the master of ceremonies, and Vicar David Kaiser of St. James Lutheran Church will offer the invocation.

Larry Schultz of American Legion Post 117, will offer the Pledge of Allegiance, with the national anthem performed by Rebecca Van Buren.

Distinguished guests include Shawano County Board Chairman Tom Kautza, Shawano Mayor Bruce Milavitz and Shawano County Veterans Service Officer Paul Pionke.

The Rev. Scott Ludford of Zion Lutheran Church is the main speaker.

Shawano High School and Shawano Middle School bands will provide a musical presentation.

Kathy Rupp of the U.S. Army AmVets Post 10 and Tina Gouine of the AmVets Ladies Auxiliary will place the memorial wreath. Members of VFW Post 2723 will conduct a rifle volley, and Brent Buettner and company will play taps.

The ceremony will conclude with another musical selection by Van Buren, the benediction from Kaiser and closing remarks by Bohm.

In case of rain, the program will be held inside the Shawano Ambulance Center.

Allied Vets Council is made up of VFW Post 2723, AmVets Post 10, VVA Chapter 206 and American Legion Post 117.
