The Tigerton High School softball team will have several new faces on the field this spring, so the team will need some underclassmen to step up in order to put forth a competitive team.

Since the last time the Tigers took the field in 2019, a total of seven letter-winners have graduated. Still, coach Michelle Brady — the 2019 Coach of the Year in the Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division — has some talented players back to lead the way.

Senior Savannah Swartz landed on the all-conference first team as a sophomore, while senior Adrienne Brady made the second team. Brady was the team’s top pitcher in 2019, and will again lead the way this spring. Swartz will be the primary catcher.

“I’m hoping I can give all the underclassmen as much wisdom as I possibly can,” said Swartz. “Everything from batting tips, what to do in situations on the field, and maintaining a positive attitude. As of right now, I’m trying to set an example of what to do, and in some cases, what not to do. The only way they’ll retain everything I’m teaching them is to create a bond with them, which we are all starting to form together.”

Autumn Fredenberg (outfield), Bethany Jobe (third base) and Leandra Kalwitz (outfield) are three juniors back with some varsity experience under their belts.

First-time varsity players will help round out the roster.

Sophomore Skyler Hauser will help Adrienne Brady on the mound and otherwise play in the infield. Sophomore Abby Swartz will spell Savannah Swartz behind the plate and also play in the infield.

Freshmen Maycee Carlson, McKenzie Hoffman, Elizabeth Stueck and Jessalyn Zimdars are utility players that can play the infield or outfield.

“Our juniors and seniors have played a lot of softball, and we will be counting on our sophomores and freshmen to make significant contributions as well,” said Michelle Brady. “This year’s success will depend on how quickly our young team can mature and adapt to the varsity level.

“Our team has some good bats, good speed, and the willingness to put in the time and effort needed to succeed. We are excited to watch this group of ladies grow and compete at a high level.”
