Tigerton School District switches to virtual learning due to COVID-19 outbreak

Multiple positive cases of COVID-19 have been documented in the Tigerton Middle/High School, leading the district to move to a virtual learning setting as of Sept. 22.

Kelley Strike, Tigerton’s district administrator, said in a letter to parents and families that the district consulted with the Shawano County Health Department before making the decision to go virtual. At this time, Strike said the district hopes to return by Oct. 8 to in-person school four days per week, which was the model developed for this school term, but the actual date will be determined by health department guidelines. The announcement letter was sent home from school Sept. 21 with all students, distributed via email and posted on the district’s Facebook page.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Center for Disease Control recommend testing for anyone who has been in close contact with someone with COVID-19, regardless of whether they have symptoms.

Strike asked families to monitor for symptoms and to seek medical advice if symptoms develop.

Strike also urged parents and families to get tested by their health care provider, a local clinic or a community testing site. Strike noted it’s important to call ahead to schedule the test and to bring a copy of the letter with them.

Community testing sites can be found at https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/communitytesting.htm.

Lastly, Strike encouraged families to contact the school nurse Amy Strehlow at 715-535-4027 or astrehlow@tigerton.k12.wi.us with information about student illnesses.
