Theodore Hughes

Theodore Evan Hughes died peacefully at his home in Mountain on Dec. 1, 2023. He was born to Viola (Pieper) Hughes and Earl Hughes on Dec. 18, 1946, in Mountain.

Ted worked for over 25 years at Ladish Manufacturing of Cudahy as a die design engineer and manager with a long history of working on projects for NASA, including the moon and the space shuttle programs, ESA, the U.S. military and civilian aircraft industries. We were all extremely proud of his work. He went on to work for Canton Drop Forge, Patriot Forge of Canada, and Dango and Dienenthal, where he worked with his son, Troy.

Ted loved to hunt, fish, observe and photograph wildlife and spend time in the outdoors. He was able to take all of his children and many of his grandchildren into the Northwoods with him to experience the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing. Ted was a devoted fan of the Wisconsin Badgers, as an alumnus of both UW-Madison and UW-Parkside. And of course, he followed his favorite Green Bay Packers.

An avid storyteller, Ted passed much of the family history and lore on to his children and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Lee Saffioti-Hughes, and four of his children and their spouses, Troy and Tiffany of Vermont, Todd and Tonya of California, Julie and Lorenco Da Silva of Utah and Jocelyn and Michael Morris, also of Utah. One child deceased, Autumn Grace Hughes, died tragically at the age of 2.

His beloved sister, Joyce Repavich of Wisconsin and her family survives him, as well as sister, Virginia Maul, and a dear former brother-in-law, Jack Taylor and his family.

He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, with a fourth due in December who will carry his name. His grandchildren are Demarie (married to Jordan Davis), Brayden (married to Ashley), Brooklynn, Madilyn and Detroit Kane; Justice (married to Amanda); Brady, Taylor, Trevan, Ethan, MaKayla, Evan, Daemyn, Evelyn Morris; Randy Hughes; Alixis Hanes, Rhiannen, Isabella and Charissa Hughes. Great-grandchildren are Eva and Raymond Kane, Lincoln Trotter and, soon, Teddy Morris. He is also survived by his first wife, Janet Hughes, many nieces and nephews, and Ladish buddy, Tom Hansen.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Gary and Tom Hughes, Don Dergen; sisters, Nancy Hughes and Sherrell Trentin; and daughter, Autumn Grace Hughes.

A family graveside service is planned for the spring of 2024, as well as a family memorial at that time. In lieu of flowers, it is Ted and Carol Lee’s wishes that donations be sent to the Autumn Grace Hughes Fund, Children’s Hospital Foundation: MS 3050, P.O. Box 1997, Milwaukee, WI 53201, to continue their efforts to help children.
