Sylvia R. Kahler

Sylvia R. Kahler, 86, of Oconto Falls, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. Sylvia was born Feb. 17, 1935, to the late Walter and Anna (Konop) Miller in Underhill. She graduated from Bonduel High School with the Class of 1952. In July 1952, Sylvia married Vincent Weier. They originally lived in the Gillett area before moving to Kewaunee and Door County for many years. The couple ran and worked at cheese factories. Together, they raised six kids until Vincent’s passing on Nov. 5, 1966. In 1965, Sylvia began working at Algoma Plywood, where she worked until 1978. On Feb. 17, 1968, she married Earl Kahler. The couple moved to Gillett in December 1978. Earl preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2004, and she later moved to Oconto Falls in 2007, after her home burned down. Sylvia enjoyed going to the cabin, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, shopping, entertaining, going out to eat with her sister, Nat, and traveling, especially trips to Florida and Walt Disney World.

Sylvia is survived by her six children, Lucy (Tom) Seidl, Jack (Jane) Weier, Lee (Heike) Weier, Jeff (Carrie) Weier, Amy (Albert) Olson and Vince (Laura) Weier; 11 grandchildren, Nicholas Seidl, Benjamin Seidl, Jacalyn (Lindley) Johnson, Elizabeth Weier, Emilee Weier, Malorie (Jermey) Batten, Alyssa (Randy) Kellogg, Cheyenne Weier, Brittany Olson, Brandon Olson and Wyatt Weier; eight great-grandchildren, Parker, Rutledge, Maisy, Ava, Randy, Sienna, McClain and Maxwell; sister, Natalie Spang; two brothers, Dean (Nora) Miller and Robert (Karen) Miller; sister-in-law, Jackie. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Vincent and Earl; siblings, Wally (Anita) Miller, June Miller, Nancy (Russ) Hottenstine and Allen Miller.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring from 5 p.m. until the funeral service at 7 p.m. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.

The family would like to thank the staff of Unity Hospice, especially Dana, Gail and Kristine, for the care and compassion offered to Sylvia and her family during their time of need. Also to Dr. Lucy Canaday for caring for Sylvia over the years. Further thanks to Carrie Weier for living with Sylvia and helping take care of her.
