Suring/Gillett's Van Den Elzen 1st at wrestling invitational

Brady Jones 1st for Shawano at invitational

Suring/Gillett wrestler Trent Van Den Elzen turned in a first-place finish at the Manawa Invitational on Jan. 8 in Manawa.

Van Den Elzen went 4-0 on the day in the 152-pound weight class. His day started with a pin in 48 seconds before three decision wins, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4.

Keegan Rattin placed third in the 145 weight class after going 3-2. All three of his wins were by pin.

Riley Denowski (113) took fourth and Carter Whisman (160) seventh to round out the day for Suring/Gillett wrestlers. The team placed 10th and scored 43 points.

Shawano claims 4th in Omro

Shawano scored 134 points and placed fourth as a team at the Omro Invitational on Jan. 8 in Omro.

The Hawks were led by Brady Jones, who won the 285 weight class after going 3-0. All three of the wins were by pin.

Damien Wudtke (120), Noah Jones (152), Andrew Popp (182) and Jackson Smits (220) all placed second for Shawano.

Wudtke had two wins by pin and a pair of technical fall wins during a 4-1 day. Noah Jones had two pins and two major decision wins during his 4-1 day.

Popp went 3-1 at the invitational, with each win coming by pin. Smits finished 4-1, with three wins by pin and the other by forfeit.

Brady Stomberg went 2-2 in the 106 weight class to grab third place. Piper Novitski posted a 1-3 mark and claimed fourth at 126 pounds.

Sheldon Krueger placed sixth at 195 pounds, while Lucas Nuthals claimed eighth place at 170 pounds to round out Shawano's lineup.

Witt-Birn 6th at Bluejay Challenge

Wittenberg-Birnamwood earned 266.5 team points to place sixth at the Bluejay Challenge on Jan. 8 in Merrill.

The Chargers were led by the first-place finishes of Pierson Potrykus (126) and David Gauderman (220). Each wrestler went 4-0 on the day.

Potrykus won two matches by pin, another by decision and the title match by major decision. Gauderman had four pins on the day.

Andres Sanchez (132) earned third place after posting a 4-1 record. All four of his wins were by pin.

Max Kersten (138) and Nathan Waupekenay (182) claimed seventh place, while Easton Davis (120) and Owen Schultz (152) each came in eighth.
