Suring Labor Day grand marshals announced

Jerry and Sharon Kopatz, representing the Town of Bagley, have been announced as the 2021 senior citizen/grand marshal award winners for this year’s Suring Labor Day Celebration.

The Kopatzes are lifetime residents of the Suring area, and both were former Suring School students. They started their education at East Side Elementary School, which is now known as the Bagley Town Hall. They have known each other their whole lives, have been married 57 years and have owned and operated Kopatz Logging since 1964. Together they have four children, Sheri, Jill, Ryan and Troy, along with six grandchildren.

The couple will be honored during the 91st annual Suring Labor Day Parade, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 6. There will be an awards ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park Band Stand in Suring following the parade.

Meanwhile, the Friends of Suring Area Public Library have scheduled several events during Labor Day weekend. The annual used book sale, “Twice Sold Tales,” will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Sept. 2-4, at the Village Municipal Building Learning Center, 604 Main St., Suring. A $3 bag sale is planned all day Sept. 4.

The Friends’ Mini “Furniture Only” Rummage Sale will be held in the backyard garage and tent at 229 N. Mill St., Suring, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 3-4.

Quilt and basket prize tickets will be sold by the Friends at the Book Sale, the Furniture Rummage Sale, and at most Labor Day activities at Suring’s Veterans Park. Drawing for the Quilt and 17 different basket prizes will be held after the noon presentation and music by the Pulaski High School Band at the shelter in Veterans Park.

All proceeds from sales of books, media, candy bars, mini furniture rummage, and raffle tickets, will be used toward the purchase of the new digital sign in front of the library, plus other projects, materials and programs for the library that are not covered by the trustee budget.
