Suring girls cross-country team takes second at meet

Olivia Noack placed second to help the Suring High School girls cross-country team place second at a meet Thursday in Lena.

Noack posted a time of 22 minutes, 11 seconds as Suring posted a score of 41, just behind Coleman's 38 and ahead of Oconto's 42.

Chantelle VandenElzen (25:01) placed sixth for Suring, while Hailey Thomson (25:45) was 11th. Georgia Gerndt (27:20) and Samantha Seibert (27:52) rounded out the team score, taking 18th and 21st, respectively.

Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy also competed, but didn't qualify for team scores. Max Beyer (19:38) placed third in the boys race, while Dylan Comins (20:06) and Reed Hosking (20:22) placed sixth and 11th, respectively.

Kennedy Marquardt (24:52) paced the girls team with a fifth-place finish. Megan Shallow (28:38), Ruth Alberts (34:35) and Samantha VanArk (35:13) also ran for the co-op, taking 24th, 32nd and 33rd, respectively.

Gillett girls first, boys second at triangular

The Gillett girls finished first and boys second at a triangular on Thursday in Tomahawk.

The Gillett girls posted a score of 34, ahead of Tomahawk (40) and Ashland (48). The Tomahawk boys finished first with a 23, with Gillett (39) in second and Ashland (69) taking third.

Sylvia Hansen (20:47.5) and Ryann Wagner (20:57.1) placed second and third, respectively, to lead the Gillett girls. Carleigh Kaczmarek (21:39.8) came in fifth, with Angela Mosconi (22:57.4) and Kasey Hansen (23:19.9) taking 11th and 13th, respectively, to cap the team score.

Derek Hanson led the Gillett boys with a second-place finish in 17:13.8. Evan Peterson (18:39.4) took fourth. Riley Engebretson (19:08.9), Ben Matczak (19:26.3) and Wyatt Wilz (23:59.5) rounded out the team score, placing seventh, ninth and 19th, respectively.
