During the current coronavirus pandemic, Social Security staff continue to provide help.

While offices are not providing service to walk-in visitors due to COVID-19, staff remain ready and able to help the public by phone with most Social Security business. Anyone can speak with a representative by calling the local Social Security office by calling the national number, 800-772-1213 or call local offices directly.

Find local office phone numbers and information for hearing-impaired phone lines online by using the Social Security office locator at www.ssa.gov/locator.

Online services, at www.ssa.gov/onlineservices, include:

• Apply for Retirement, Disability, and Medicare benefits.

• Check the status of an application or appeal.

• Request a replacement Social Security card (in most areas).

• Print a benefit verification letter.

Although you can do most of your business online, that service channel isn’t right for everyone, so phone service remains available. If someone has a critical situation and can’t be helped by phone or online, a representative may be able to schedule an appointment.
