SHAWANO — A Shawano woman was charged Thursday with stealing more than $6,000 from the Shawano Community High School Music Boosters while serving as treasurer for the organization.

Aleta C. Young, 47, is facing a felony count of theft in a business setting for allegedly taking money from the boosters organization between October 2016 and March 2019.

She could face a maximum six years in prison and $10,000 fine if convicted.

According to the criminal complaint, the boosters organization alerted police in April to inconsistencies in the student music group’s checking and savings accounts.

The group provided police with a list of suspicious withdrawals from both accounts.

Young was the sole person authorized to make withdrawals and write checks during the time the alleged offenses took place.

The complaint alleges Young also failed to deposit money from the sales from concessions at certain events.

The total amount of unaccounted for money from the boosters club totaled $6,170.76, according to the complaint.

Young is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Oct. 21.
