The Shawano Community High School girls golf team placed first at the final Bay Conference tour stop at Wander Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf on Sept. 20 to win the conference team title.

Shawano earned a team score of 353, nine shots ahead of Xavier. With the first-place finish, Shawano claimed the conference title ahead of Xavier.

“As a team it was an amazing achievement,” said senior Teghan Kristof. “I was really happy when we beat Xavier at the conference tournament, because we have been very close to them all season. They were three points ahead of us at the conference and we took first at conference so we got four points to just slide in front of them. When I saw that we beat them by nine strokes I was super excited because we have been so close to them all three years I have been on varsity.”

“The first-place finish as a team has been a goal of the team since my freshman year,” said fellow senior Riley Dreier. “My freshman year we were very close with Seymour and my sophomore and junior year we were so close to Xavier. Beating Xavier at the conference tournament felt so good because they were ahead of us for the majority of the season.”

Sophia Eggert and Kristof each made the Bay Conference first team, while Braylyn Babino made the second team and Dreier the honorable mention list.

Xavier’s Aliisa Helminen was the conference’s top golfer, with Eggert and Kristof in second and third, respectively.

Kristof led Shawano at the final tour stop with an 18-hole round of 82. Eggert tallied an 84.

“It was special to me to be first team all-conference again and finish No. 2 in the Bay because it shows dedication,” said Eggert.

“I feel that it is very special that I have gotten first team all-conference all three years (playing varsity), because the Bay Conference has a lot of girl golfers,” said Kristof. “I thought it was very cool for four of our varsity golfers to place in the top 15.”

Babino carded a round of 90, while Dreier tallied a 97. Alli Johnson posted a round of 102 to cap the five-golfer team.

“The Bay Conference has a lot of good girl golfers, and I am honored to be one of the top-15 golfers all three years I have been on varsity,” said Dreier.

Bonduel placed fifth on the day with a score of 428 and also were fifth for the entire season.

Sarah Garside led Bonduel on the day with a round of 97. She made the all-conference second team.

Kerry O’Harrow recorded a round of 105, while Thea Tauchen shot a 108. Gabi Krause and Raina Dworniczak each fired 118s.

Oconto Falls takes 2nd in conference

Oconto Falls capped a strong run in the North Eastern Conference with a second-place finish at the conference tournament on Sept. 21 at Wander Springs Golf Course.

Oconto Falls finished only behind Wrightstown.

Kloeigh Seidl led Oconto Falls with a round of 99 to help her land on the all-conference first team this fall. Kate Pytleski posted a round of 101 and was the first golfer on the second team.

“It means a ton to make second team this year,” said Pytleski. “I do however wish I would have finished stronger at conference to make first team.”

Kenadee Seidl and Taylor Miller both finished as honorable mentions in the conference. Seidl tallied a round of 101 at the conference meet, while Miller posted a 106.

Oconto Falls’ fifth golfer, Lexi Nelson carded a round of 116. She missed a spot on the honorable mention team by only a couple of points.
