The Shawano Community High School No. 3 doubles tennis team of Adison Moesch and Morgan Van Eperen battled but came up short of earning any wins at the Division 1 Wausau West Sectional on Wednesday in Wausau.

The pair of losses ended the season for the duo, but not before making some history. Moesch and Van Eperen became the first Shawano tennis players to advance to sectionals since 2009, when Abigail Stock did it as a No. 1 singles player.

Moesch, a freshman, and Van Eperen, a sophomore, dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match to Hudson to open the sectional. The Shawano duo then dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 6-1 match to Menomonie in the third-place match.

"With me just being a sophomore, going to sectionals was a wonderful learning experience because I was able to see how the big leagues are and can pick out some things that I need to work on after watching the other teams play," said Van Eperen.

"I’m very grateful for my fellow teammates and coaches for helping me improve and get this far," said Moesch. "It was a great experience to go this far and learn what it takes to win. I am hoping to get better every year and try to make it to sectionals once again."

Both players also talked about being supportive of each other and how they've grown and become a strong duo over the season.

Doubles: No. 3: Sophie Pope-Bailey Finch (Hudson) def. Adison Moesch-Morgan Van Eperen, 6-2, 6-1; Anna Wheeler-Jaycie Luzinski (Menomonie) def. Moesch-Van Eperen, 6-3, 6-1.
